To each there own. Elita-1 is close to $25(and it's from and existing Starscream mold) on Amazon so around $150 for 5 voyager figures. $140 for 5 voyagers(new molds) that combine doesn't seem that bad in comparison. Look at the new Siege line. More expensive for voyagers and they're smaller.
I only keep him combined and he doesn't seem cheap or hollow to me. Seems pretty much on par with my UW Devastator. The cheap/hollow debate had raged for years. If some cases, I agree; Hasbro uses thin waxy plastic and leaves huge chunks of robots hollow to save a few sheckels. But in a case like this, I think if the combined mode were any heavier, the damn thing would topple under its own weight and be worthless. But this cheap hollow debate..... Some men, you just can't reach So, you get what we had here, last week Which is the way he wants it Well, he gets it And I don't like it any more than you men
That's a good point. It is hefty in combined mode and I think even the individuals have a decent weight compared others in the line like Starscream. Have to also factor in when oil prices go up, so does plastic prices. From a tactile perspective it doesn't feel cheap to me. Feels solid and well balanced.
I've said it before, but the newer plastics used are as strong if not stronger than the heavier plastics like what was used in the A/E/C trilogy. The plastic's tensile strength is much more durable, and doesn't crack as easily as the older plastics. It's also, in many cases, incredibly difficult to cut through. I can take a jewelers saw straight through a Cybertron figure, but cutting into a newer figure takes time and is more difficult. So basically, in the context of the plastic quality, it isn't "cheap". I equate it to Teflon vs. steel, actually. There also may be hollow parts, but there's at least detailing in the areas that both add dimension and add to the part's strength. To me, the only "cheap, hollow syndrome" we're afflicted with are in the comments.
I'm holding out for between $100-120 shipped myself. Literally only getting for combined mode as the robot mode look dumb with an entire leg as a backpack for example. The hollowness thing on recent figures only bugs me because they also have gone up in price. Typically costs go up, companies raise prices or reduce size like food for example. Hasbro has done both. It's not the weight that gets me, it's the visual hollownessbsome figures have now compared to older ones.
Getting back into Transformers after a long absence. Predaking is one of my favorites, how is this figure for Predaking fans? Do yall prefer 3rd party or is this pretty solid? Even down to the actual 5 Predacons how do they compare individually and with scale? How does this compare (from a Predaking fan) to the G1 Re-issue? Sorry if I have a lot of questions. Also the DNA Designs upgrade kit looks nice.
Nice. Quick question: Can the fists be stored with the knuckle spikes in the feet when the Predacons are in individual robot modes?
Mentioned this in the DNA thread, but wanted to add it here too. Predaking's shoulder cannons may be a weak point over time. Had mine set on a shelf for a few months, barely being touched, with his cannons set at about 45 degrees from the shoulders (hard to see by my avatar, but it's there). Picked it up today to double check something on his back, and the cannons both dropped flat onto his shoulders. Somehow the rivets have become loose. Now, won't hold to any position under about 50 degrees. Holds for a small amount (roughly 50-75 degrees) then weak again until pointing straight up
Messed around with this guy today after not really doing much with him when I first got him, and he is great. The individual bots in both modes are simple but fun. Also very durable — I give them to my two year old and she runs around and bashes them into things singing the Old McDonald had a Farm song (as Lion, Cat, Bird, Cow, Rhino). Predaking himself is the star, of course, and it’s just such a cool looking figure. Everything locks in well, sturdy, fairly well articulated for what he is. I’m a fan.
This happened to me a few months after I first got him (having displayed them at the 45 degree angle), and then I just left them to rest on the shoulders. Now months later they are posable at that angle again and hold with decent friction. Can’t explain it, but there you go.
Original with add-ons. The DNA kit may not be that good, but the hands, side guns and spine are really nice. Makes an awesome set even better.
I think there's a second one, but the DNA one has the clawed hands while the other one has stubby fingers.
