Target sales and Target’s clearances are different. Sales vary in what discounts they’ll provide. Sometimes it’s a percentage, sometimes it’s a flat dollar amount off; but sales are typically consistent across all target B&M localations. Ironically, in October of last year, TR soundwave went on a ‘$7 off’ sale for a price of $42.99 (following week had a $10 off $50 and $25 off $100 toy purchases offering).

When Target clearances things, they first tag a 30% off, then 50% off, then 70% off if particular items don’t sell at that location. Target clearance discounts/prices vary from store to store, so one/some might have the same figure for 30% off while others might be at the 50% mark. Case in point, this week I saw some fortnite figures clearanced to 50% at one target, but at 70% off at another target.

Back to TFs, and the soundwave example. That same TR soundwave mold was repackaged around the timing of the bumblebee movie (because... desperation?... err, good business practices) and eventually got clearanced down to 70% off at some target locations.

It is a gamble on what might get clearanced at target, and if clearanced, to what level it will be clearanced to, be it 30%, 50% or 70%. It has, however been seen on some transformer lines like CW, TR, PoTP, CV, BB; but I don’t think I’ve seen target clearance lines like SS or Siege (other stores yes on those lines, but not target).

Hmm, I could have sworn target.com had siege barricade on the website earlier. I was able to add him to cart but I didn't order because I was waiting for mirage mainly to get a few other items for the $10 discount. I suppose barricade either sold out or target realized they had a new figure available with a discount code. Also looks like siege shockwave was raised to $38 and some change. I'm pretty sure he was $30 a few days ago

Got about the best possible outcome from the Target sale. Found Mirage, Impactor, and Barricade. Also had a $10 GC so 3 deluxe for $40.

I was lucky enough that my local Target dropped BB TR Soundwave to $15 on clearance. (I never got the TR version, and this one had the more realistic radio tooling, so that was a win-win-win for me.)

Target holiday deal tip: Shockwave is $38.99 online right now. If you price-match Shockwave in-store and buy 2 deluxes, and buy a voyager, you’ll have a cart total that can use the $25 off $100 that ends today. Then, hold that receipt. When Astrotrain, Apeface, Spinister, and Crosshairs are released at Target, buy them, then return the previously bought Transformers on the full price receipts, because they match the DPCI numbers. You’ll have purchased the new Transformers at a discount. And if you didn’t find the newest wave before the 90 days return policy expires, you can still get your money back by returning the Transformers.

Thanks for the tip. That's a good idea. Only problem is I'm sure my Target wont get the new wave in time, but worth a shot. Do you know when this $100/$25 deal ends?

That's the kind of girl you marry.

You're putting a lot of faith that a Target will have all three of those figures in at the same time.

Maybe, but not our fault they cant get their crap together and organize their inventory system. This is the same store that had Redwing as red card exclusive with "limit of 5" but then let you order as many times as you wanted until a month later they realized they screwed up and block your account.

The DCPI switch trick doesn't work anymore. Now they track items by the assortment DCPI but the individual ones are listed on the reciept. Please don't try this, it won't work anymore.

Don't believe me? look at the DCPI on the peg at Target next time you buy a deluxe/voyager/leader then look at the receipt after you buy it

Not to mention its dishonest, and its why Target used to have tons and tons of shelfwarmers late in lines, as people would buy 20 crappy figures online for 70% off then return them full price with their old Target receipts.

"Dishonest" is a matter of opinion. If Target is still getting back an unopened and brand new figure that's worth the exact same MSRP, it's fine in my opinion.

YMMV I guess. Worked for me exchanging some previous waves for Impactor, Mirage and Barricade last week. DPCI’s on physical receipts are still by class sizes. Only online orders go by individual DPCI’s.

Also, it’s not being dishonest, Target’s return policy is very open about swapping items in the same code being OK.

As a retail manager, douche move Karen. It's taking advantage of a policy set up for legitimate return reasons. This is why the customer is always right idea is dead. Customers now are selfish and greedy. Yeah they are technically getting back a similar item but if its and old shelf warmer they wont sell since shoppers are looking for the newer ones.

What is preventing target from getting different codes for each wave? I highly doubt it's super complicated and cant be done.

It looks like they reverted back to the old way - the 2 voyager class figures are showing the same dcpi on the receipt. They changed it when wave 2 of siege was released where each figure showed their own number but thundercracker and springer are showing the same now

Oh no, poor Target. I'm sure they're there like:

And we're not talking a similar item, we're talking the exact same item, especially in Target's eyes. It's not swapping parts and it's not stealing. Same DCPI, same packaging, same price. Only thing different is the name.

Currently, there's two pegs full of Dropkick at my local Target, and that's without anyone returning it. Basically no different than when Hasbro overstocks a figure in a wave.

And what if it's not a shelf warmer? Maybe it's a figure from a wave or two ago that another collector is looking for.
