Always interesting to see what international presence they're looking to project. HasCon is noted for its absence.
Pretty sure someone asked hasbro about hascon last week and they said that there wont be a new hascons, i might be wrong
Lucca comic and games. Star Wars, Marvel e Transformers Or a possibly shitty google translation since their English version of the site hasn't updated yet. Hasbro, a leader in creating the best gaming experiences in the world, will headline Lucca Comics & Games. New lines of action figures, accessories and vehicles dedicated to the "Star Wars" saga and Marvel superheroes will be unveiled at the world premiere; even some pieces will be presented exclusively. Special guest the Global Product Development Manager of the "Star Wars" and Marvel lines. Fans of the robot-vehicle "Transformers" will also find bread for their teeth, in the monographic pavilion of Piazza San Giusto dedicated to the many Hasbro Fans. And for fans of canned games, in the Carducci Pavilion, all the latest news by Hasbro Gaming.
A Hasbro-ran "Botcon" would be nice. But I think they're satisfied just piggybacking off of other large conventions like SDCC and NYCC. It costs less and gives fans a similar experience - even if most of us will never attend either due to logistics and/or cost on our end.
Hasbro clearly isn't interested, but if they were, sure. I'd be okay with a Hasbro-run convention. But since they clearly AREN'T interested, I'd be happy to see them simply ALLOW someone to have the license again. Denying it to FunPub (nothing special about them, mind you) when Hasbro wasn't going to offer a TF-specific con in its place... that just wasn't cool. (I disagree that what they do gives us a similar experience)
Botcon is gone forever, along with the fandom that supported it. The new fandom won't give up 3rd party even for one weekend, and Hasbro won't allow 3rd party at an officially endorsed convention. Botcon could never be profitable in this day and age, therefore no one will ever attempt to bring it back.
Well, fortunately it's not too far from where I live, I know the way and the location and whatnot, so it won't be too hard for me to get there. Plus, I have the weekends off.
That's a lot of assumptions. Plus, "the new fandom"? BotCon hasn't been gone that long. Don't get me wrong, I agree it's not coming back. The Transformer-specific people from Fun Pub have already moved on, and the rest of the operations are completing their wind-down. They turned down the chance to continue JoeCon, it likely was no longer profitable enough to solely support the business, coupled with running out of things that could be done with existing molds. Pretty much the worst-case scenario I predicted before - by the time Hasbro realized they weren't going to be interested in running a Club, the people that were already running one had disbanded and were not going to come back. Not to mention, there's no indication Hasbro IS willing to license it out again - some marketing weenie saw their chance to expand their little fiefdom by bringing all the marketing in-house, and now it's screwed us all. Although their new approach to doing one-off toys is still a bonus.
I forgot the London one was happening and booked a weekend away d'oh. Oh well, whether by internet or in person the end result is the same, you can look but you can't touch!
A lot of assumptions or not, I'm glad you agree with me, regardless. The fandom was fundamentally changed as soon as 3rd parties started giving them whatever they wanted, as soon as they wanted it. Once that starts happening, it's impossible to go back to the way things were. And as far as exclusive toys go, it truly isn't necessary--like the fandom, Hasbro is also quite different now than it was just ~six years ago, when the 3rd parties really started altering the landscape. But a convention is more than just exclusive toys, and it's unfortunate that we can't have a weekend of celebrating our thing with Hasbro staff because no one is willing to go to a show where they can't buy 3rd party toys.
Instagram Hasbro Pulse on Instagram: “Hasbro will be at @ComicConParis, @MCMComicCon, @ficomic, @luccacomicsandgames and @GermanComicCon with exciting news (including some…”
3rd parties arent giving me what I want. there is no toy for Violen Jiger, Signal Lancer, Guiltaur, or Majin Zarak. Beast wars is barely being scratched. nobody is making Hearts of Steel one company dipped their toes into Animated, then pussied out.
I feel the need to point out that LOTS of people still went to the BotCons after the 3P toy ban went into effect. Sure, it was a bummer on everything, but it didn't seem to affect attendance. With Hasbro now branching out even more into areas that were exclusively 3P, seems like it would have even less effect now.
