It's due to his comic appearance with always having sharp teeth in both UK & US Marvel Comic Continuity of G1 and even onwards.
Armada even had him with sharp teeth in the comics.
It was to make him even more menacing when he devours others and of course his planet mouth to match.

I just realized that they teased the damaged head on Unicron from the start and we didn't even notice it.

 

primus originates from marvel g1, so hes definitely connected to that era, though he wasnt given a bot mode till transformers cybertron (based on some artwork from dreamwave i believe)

 

Anyone else still think the backpack can be removed?
Go to 2:40 and look at the backpack attaching arm, it look like it just...well...slots into place.
I really hope we can have it be removable. :-D

 

He is definitely blue and yellow / gold, not gray and orange. The source material itself varies from scene to scene and which version of the movie you are watching. I think bright lighting will accentuate lighter aspects of those colors, while more “real world” or darker lighting mutes them, as seen in some of the pictures posted by me and Superhans.

In addition to the comics, Unicron also randomly sported a few fangs in Season 3.



I don’t think we’ve seen an open mouth shot without the teeth, but we’ve been told that the teeth are movable and on a separate axis than the jaw. Hopefully that means we can move them away if we don’t want them displayed.

 

I'm building a whole new shelving unit from scratch for my collection. Its going to be 3 sections. This is a rough sketch of what I have. I'm still working on the measurements. The Large upper Cavities are for Titans class. Unicron is obviously in the center. Its going to have LED lights and I want to put glass doors in to keep the dust out. some storage compartments also help the electrics. its going to be modular in sections with wheels incase I move. Can be all against a wall, or Unicron can go in the Corner with Autobots and Decepticons on either side.

I've got two tables to choose from to place him in my room. Granted I'm going to have to start changing my displays up to move figures off of one of them. Currently one has Trypticon and the other has Omega Supreme.

 

I read the creator interview again, and this line stuck out:

“Another challenge worth mentioning is that even if I wanted to recycle parts like his horn, the size varies as robot vs planet mode so I couldn’t.”

Based on the original unreleased G1 toy, the mouth pincers transform into the robot horns, and even though the animation never confirms it, I think the robot horns and planet pincers are intended to be the shared parts of the animation model as well.

That got me thinking on whether or not the planet pincer detail matches the horns.



And although I can’t find pictures that line them up exactly, I think they do! The 3 outer segments of the horn seem to largely match the pincer! I love Takara designers

Hmm I don’t think he has teeth in the movie, which is my main source of reference. Either way knowing he has teeth in every other appearance helps!
