The worst CGI I spotted was that pointy ship just before it goes to Warp (the La.. whatever it's called Mermaid or something I didn't care to give it enough brainspace to remember right now) Though a lot of it I hope isn't final as it looks like very Bad TV CGI. There are a few things that have me perplexed those MantaRay Diamond shaped things that look like a cross between the drones in Star Trek Beyond and a Xindi Reptilian ship - If I had to guess they might be the Romulan answer to Sisko's Defiant. Or they could just be fighters. There is some ships that perplex me they don't look like well "anything" they don't look like any established race they look a bit like a Discovery shuttle with wings on it but they don't even look Federation and they don't look Romulan either - so I hope they don't relate to an established race as they just don't work as either - even as an update of Discovery Section 31 ships designs they barely work. One has to hope we have not seen a Federation ship yet - as so far there isn't a single thing that looks remotely Starfleet to me. Heck the Vintage Enterprise NX-01 like kibble covered out of it's time Romulan Bird of Prey looks more Starfleet than anything in the rest of the Trailer (Enterprise D aside). I have heard we actually don't really see Starfleet until the end of the season - but so far it really could be any show - that just happens to share cast members with TNG in the way Stargate and Farscape shared people.
Saw the trailer. If it was meant to pique my interest and make me want to watch this show...then if failed miserably. (But then, I never wanted a Picard series just like I didn't want a Kirk or a Spock series in the 80's/90's.) Just the standard action based series we're getting these days, with some mystery plot. I also don't see why this is a Picard series, since I get the feeling it's mostly about other people with Picard being there mostly for fan appeal and a minor relevance to some past plots. Considering Stewarts age, I can't see him being that active in the series. Not lead character active in any way. Biggest mystery was why Riker and Troi were living in some wilderness shed. Why isn't Riker in starfleet (either as a captain or an admiral -- like he was in the alternate timeline of All Good Things…). Throughout TNG he's portrayed as a Starfleet man who wants to serve and eventually command. Instead he's looking worse than McCoy in TMP. Riker should only be about sixty at this time, thus about the same age as Picard was when he got command of the Enterprise-D. No, still not really that interested and with not having an Amazon subscription, I won't be watching it. My GF is very much interested in the upcoming Wheel of Time tv series, so maybe when that's out in the distant future we'll take a month subscription iand then binge watch. But if I never watch it, then no problem on my side. Well, unless reactions are very, very positive. But then, it's Kurtzman and I can count the things he's done and I like on the fingers on one hand -- and just the fingers
Riker had several opportunities to command his own ship, but passed on all of them. Maybe in whatever timeline this is, he felt that Starfleet command just wasn't for him. I always thought that he should have been given his own command after the events of Best of Both Worlds when he took command as Captain after Picard was abducted and assimilated by the Borg. I don't think they ever explained why he didn't keep the Captain's rank and was given a commission after those episodes.
Well, as long as I don't have to see it as well or read those books, then whatever floats her boat He choose to step down back to commander after Best of Both Worlds. Starfleet wanted to keep him a Captain and offered him (of screen) every command he wanted, but he wanted to remain on board the Enterprise. (Which would never work in a real navy.) But the reasoning behind him declining a promotion in BobW and earlier in season 2, plus his comments in Generations, kind of give rise to the idea that he wanted the Enterprise: no other ship could be as good a post as that. This was also speculation or rumour for the Insurrection movie (which in the end sadly wasn't the case): Riker having left the Enterprise and taken command of another ship, the USS Titan (which was part of the Nemesis storyline giving it some credit), after he came to realise Picard would never step down. But in Nemesis Riker was leaving the Enterprise (and left it at the end) to be the captain (with promotion) of the USS Titan. This promotion at the same time as his wedding to Deanna interestingly fits with a novel written by Peter David, either Imzadi or its sequel, in which Riker concludes that he couldn't accept a promotion unless he knew for sure Deanna would go with him, because even as friends he wanted her in his life. And as XO of the Enterprise and commanding her several times, he must have had a very good idea what command was. So him realising that command isn't for him, just doesnt gel with his character and his experiences. (If he was forced into a promotion to admiral, like in the novels, then I can see that happening. But then they could Always demote him to Captain just like happened twice to Kirk.
Nah, you'll probably have to hear her grip about how much they seem to be diverting from the show. "Why did they change this? That's not what Perrin would do!" :
LOL. Perrin who? I know completely nothing about that series nor do I want to. She has seen so many adaptions of books and I've already made comments in that regard. So she's prepared. Plus thanks to hour long telephone calls with my mother, I have a lot of experience with just nodding and making non-committel sounds that sound like I agree
He was seemingly holding out on accepting a command of other ships because he wanted the Enterprise under the right circumstances. That seemed to be the case at the end of Generations when they were getting ready to leave the Enterprise-D wreckage he mentions I always assumed I'd have this chair someday while touching the captains chair with Picard replying perhaps you still will somehow I doubt this will be the last ship to be named Enterprise. By Nemesis Riker and Troi were to be married and Riker decided to accept command of the Titan at the end of the film. I was guessing after his cameo was announced it would be with the Enterprise-E, or a new Enterprise-F saying he gave up command of the Titan years ago for the Enterprise, but I guess that isn't going to be the case. I just hope other cameos from other tng,ds9,or voyager actors that might show up at some point don't show each and everyone of them left Starfleet because honestly if they pull that it would just seem like a gimmick to show look picard left so everyone else should too.
Getting married, having a kid and raising a family does interesting things to people. Priorities change, as do life goals. It wouldn't surprise me if Riker and Troi decided to settle down to a quieter life despite Riker's wilder bachelor days. Was nice seeing them and Data. I do wonder about the rest of the TNG cast and if they'll show up. Seven of Nine having a large role is cool too but, yeah, I echo the concerns about whether or not this is just a Trek show where Picard is merely a guest star or cameo instead of actually headlining it.
I think they had a bunch of Datas in there. That lady in the white outfit and then the bald guys in the red shirts with the mark on the forehead....I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they're all artificial lifeforms. Hah, a few of my STO characters are next generation artificial lifeforms: The Tactical Android and Emergency Tactical Hologram - both tools mass produced for Starfleet Black Ops. That would be so weird if this mirrors it...
Those new ST shows gave me new appreciation at Cryptic's attempts at making Star Trek, to be honest...
Yes, agreed! Despite the problems the game sometimes has, I feel like they try to honor the canon they are given. Hell, they even turned STV material into a fun zone with Nimbus III missions at Paradise City.
They really seem like fans of the franchise. They should have ignored the destruction of Romulus though.
This was interesting! So they are fighting a TOS era Romulan Bird of Prey? Odd! I liked the designs, such as the new symbols, shuttles, Starfleet. They also showed a hologram of the original Enterprise D so we can put this "20% likeness" nonsense behind us. Riker and Troi aged well. I am guessing though they and Data and Seven will be guest characters at most. Picard himself will probably just mentor this new team mostly, like Bruce Wayne in Batman Beyond. That android with a number on his head... likely they finally managed to mass-produce Data's design? The only thing I dislike is ersatz Orlando Bloom vulcan guy. He looks more like he stepped off the set of LOTR as an elf background character. And why a katana, not some more traditional vulcan weapon? Wait, how come Hugh aged so little over the years? Or Borg live longer?
How do you ignore that? It happened in this production team's universe. Even if you consider the original and "Prime" timelines to be different, they have to use Prime.
Yea, that'd be like ignoring the destruction of the earth at zero A.D., Totally not going to have huge ripple effects in the Star Trek Universe.
