After season 2, we never hear of them again...  

 

Maybe they just moved on to other things. Why would a disabled man and an elderly man being running around in an increasingly dangerous war zone?

 

They'd be hanging out at HQ with their Autobot friends...Chip was a computer genius and Sparkplug knew enough to help repair Autobots so they'd still be useful if being friends wasn't enough.

 

Chip at least has shown up in some of the extended fiction (Binaltech, I think?). I believe it was implied he helped develop the exo-suit technology.

 

Chip didn't die, he just grew too much courage for the Autobots, so Gi Joe recruited him instead.

Sparkplug just went back to work at one of those many jobs he used to work. Wants to double the "used to work" places before he dies.

 

I did always assume Sparkplug had died. Chip I guess went on to bigger and better things. Thinking about it now, I wonder if he built himself some new legs like Jessica Morgan?

 

In the JP Universe, Chip and Atari's tech were very influential with the TF evolution. There were even plans for an adult Chip to be part of Masterforce. Sparkplug more or less died.

Interestingly, there was a design for an older post-2005 Chip made for the Headmasters anime, although he never actually appeared. It can be seen in the the Ark II character design book.

 

True true, I assume that Chip is still alive for this reason. He isn't dead absolutely.
Sadly Sparklung could be dead, in 80's there was a lot less prevention knowlwdge on health and so he could be dead for some age illness, besides he used to work a lot

Take it with a grain of salt, but tfwiki says that Sparkplug was originally supposed to appear in The Five Faces of Darkness:

"Sparkplug Witwicky is mentioned in the Sunbow cast list for this episode—and the relevant dialogue script reveals that he was indeed supposed to make an appearance! He would have been with Outback and Blaster aboard the E.D.C. shuttle sent to investigate reports of Decepticon activity in Carbombya. His one line—"How're we gonna find the Decepticons? They're both fine, and busy hanging out at the STARS base  

 

I get what you are thinking but let me point out two things

1)Chip was already running around in the danger zone for years

2)Sparkplug “Elderly” by 2005......not sure I can fully agree with that, But that’s just my opinion

 

One of the comics had Sparkplug die in a shuttle that exploded that was supposed to take the autobots back to Cybertron. Anyone remember this one?

 

I do. That was Dreamwave.

Anyway... it's a big galaxy. What happened to the Autobots like Bluestreak or Trailbreaker or Tracks that didn't die but were never seen again? The show just focused on Rodimus and his crew.

 

They died on the way back to their home planet.

My head-canon as a 6 year old child was that Sparkplug had died of a heart attack. I didn’t know what head-canon was at the time, but that was mine.

 

If we follow the treatment/storyboards, just after Megs sez "Their defenses are broken, let the slaughter begin" and before Prime hands the decepticons their butts in a silver platter, several autobots together with UM charge Devs and cause the Constructicons to break apart in components who then in payback slaughter them. In my head-canon Chip worked for a while with Carly and they became close (what with Chip being a computer genius and Carly attending MIT they had a bit in common). But, ultimately Carly chose Spike. As a small wedding is performed by Optimus Prime, Chip walks off into the sunset (note: Wheeljack and Ratchet had fixed his legs by then).
