This is my understanding as well. People buying Unicron to sell would just be resellers. Scalpers buy things with a limited stock for a quick return, most commonly concert/sporting event tickets.

 

And that's just fine. There's no retail marketplace for $500+ toys, so you're describing a scenario where initiatives like this are the only avenue to get those things produced, anyways.

It's not like we're being strongarmed into buying any of those things.

The only people scared by your "nightmare" scenario are compulsive buyers with no financial sense.

Everybody else will just say "bring it on!", because it'd be cooler to have those sorts of options than not. It's highly unlikely we'd get a repeat campaign within 2 years, anyways. It wouldn't be until after Unicron releases, when they've proved they can deliver.

Personally, I'm hard pressed to imagine any other Transformers product I'd be willing to shell out $600 for, barring an MP-style Combiner. And you'd have a hard time arguing that that wouldn't be worth it.

 

Do you know what the final etailer count was vs Haslab straight backer?

 

Yeah. An MP Devastator would probably get people to shell out that much. (And honestly I've probably spent near that on 3P combiners, so that's not a bad deal.)

I wonder what the success for this figure means for the future of Masterpiece, premium Transformers figures and IP that they own. I for one would love a large MMPR Megazord. Come one Hasbro, you know you want to make a Megazord with fully articulated Zords that come with Ranger mini-figures.

I could see myself shelling out that much for a giant play set! For a single figure, unlikely. A whole ecosystem to put them in? Absolutely.
