Is there a video or anything showing how to prevent this damage? I'm getting mine on Monday

The second run just had the rubber protection in place. It helps but scratching out of the box is still likely.

I think in most cases. It's there right out of the box. Not really preventable.

Doesn't help, it's scratched in the box from just existing.

Yup. I just got mine. Never transformed. But I can see a giant chunk of paint missing on his car hood-right out of the box. Damn it.

I contacted FansToys, and they do not have any replacement hoods. They are sending me some touch up paint.

    Anyone have a non-scratched hood? :)

Mine arrived in much better condition than most but was still slightly blemished. Over time it has gotten worse. I emailed Fanstoys forever ago about a replacement hood or the paint kit. Paid the shipping but after 6 weeks nothing ever arrived. Emailed again and was told they'd send another but still nothing. 20191006_002944.jpg 20191006_002944.jpg

Just do this. Fanstoys FT-17 Hoodlum (Masterpiece Hot Rod)

It is easier and the paint is better than what FT gives you.

Here is my going at the tutorial provided by sodawilly: Fanstoys FT-17 Hoodlum (Masterpiece Hot Rod)

and here is my final results Fanstoys FT-17 Hoodlum (Masterpiece Hot Rod)

I would try that first. I heard the paint from FT is kind of a disaster to work with.

EDIT Here is someones run in with the FT paint: Fanstoys FT-17 Hoodlum (Masterpiece Hot Rod)

@fsfeedback has your paint held up since Feb or whenever that was? Have you transformed Hoodlum a bunch?

Nah I haven't, but I am just using some scotch tape to over the diecast to keep the metal from contacting on metal. The enamel paints used are very very strong, especially on diecast.

Cool. I'll try it out. I put a piece of felt in to protect mine but it didn't work so well. When I first got him there was just a tiny speck where the orange showed through. You can see from my pic above that the paint chipping spread.

FYI I've transformed mine multiple times since I did the paint mods... No issues whatsoever. The Testors paint once cured is SUPER solid. Goes on easy too. Just take your time doing it. =)

Transformed this guy a couple of time. The chipping on the car bumper sucks, but it's not the end of the world. I had the lack of a neck for this guy so I'm looking in to the neck adapter. Otherwise, I really like him. Definitely more stable than MP-28!

This has nothing to do with the chip, I've had 3 hoodlums and all 3 were chipped out of the box.

Maybe you need to send this message to your QC guys at the factory so they can handle it appropriately rather than blame customers.

Is anything being done to resolve this besides a bottle of paint ? It's in quite a prominent area. Maybe remanufacture that piece in plastic for people ?

You're right, the transformation has nothing to do with the paint chip.

But to your question of whether anything is being done to resolve the issue besides a bottle of paint: They did start sending out replacement hoods to those who asked directly. I initially received a paint kit from them; when I wasn't satisfied with the way it looked I asked for a replacement hood piece and they sent it.
