And there's the rub, for me. This is only HALF Star Convoy, unfortunately. But I'm operating under the assumption that a full Star Convoy isn't coming anytime soon. (Although how sick would it be if Siege part two's Commander Class figure is actually a PROPER Star Convoy, base mode, Micromaster Hot Rod and all?)

I am still hoping to give this a place in my collection, but it really depends on whether I will enjoy the smaller figure.

A Commander class Star Convoy would be very fitting. But my dream would be a wholly dedicated Generations homage of the entire Battlestars crew (with the big three all in Commander class). It’s never gonna happen ofcourse.

I actually think this is a rare instance - because the transformations needn’t be complex - where a company like Bandai could deliver a knockout 60,000yen giant giftset (featuring all the Micromasters, Microtrailers, electronics and what not).

That is true for the original Star Convoy. But is it also true for the new Star Convoy?

It’s fair to assume that Orion Pax has his own vehicle mode that the PotP toy does not have. PotP Orion Pax transforms into Optimus Prime’s cab, not his own vehicle mode.

So if the new Star Convoy is a new permanent upgrade for Optimus Prime, then it’s fair to say that Star Convoy would have his own vehicle mode not possible with the new toy, which again, represents regular Optimus Prime.

 

I just want some cool super-robot goodness. Star Convoy was like Optimus if he lived in the Brave franchise. This toy just don't capture that.

You act like there's some canonical reason behind "they were too lazy/didn't have the budget to retool the Optimus cab and just decided to keep the G1 alt mode out of convenience."

If they had attempted to give Star Convoy a proper Star Convoy alt mode, they'd need an all new figure. Too much is being read into this.

 

Really wanted this to be better than it turned out. A shame as I dig the Action Master homage and the big robot is pretty great on its own merits, but ain't up to scratch as a Star Convoy. Though with the MMC version progressing nicely, I might still be in luck. That's what's great about options.

 

Played with 2 generation select star convoy of my friends who bought from Japan and HK respectively. Here are the findings:
1. There is a soft ratchet on the left knee of small bot but this soft ratchet not available on right knee.

2. Both HK and JP stock do not have very weak feet of star convoy, but they are not so strong too to withstand a finger slight push to fall backwards.

3. The outwards bmhip ball joints of small bot and star convoy are loose.

4. There is strong rachet on hip forward and backwards of star convot6, softer ratchet of such on small bot.

5. There is no knee ratceht6at all for star convoy but it is reasonably tight.

Anyone uses any nail polish to solve no ratchet loose right knee of small bot?

And lastly, how to make the feet of star convoy stronger?

 

So... Got mine today... And the gold bit was broken in box... Any suggestions how and if to possibly restore it? Other than that fine and sturdy figure...

 

My Star Convoy has turned up as well (fortunately the gold piece was fine. The above post had me a bit concerned.) and I am really liking the look of this guy. He still has the flaws of the POTP mold, like the feet, but in combined robot mode (which is what I'm really interested in), he looks really good (IMO) .

I like the way the colours come together, and the gold and silver, black, grey, red, blue and yellow work well as a whole. The grey bits of trailer hanging off the arms and legs that so irritated me with POTP Optimus don't bother me now. I don't even have a problem with the the G1 chest windows (at least until a decent 3P upgrade changes my mind  ).

At the end of the day I'm pleased to have a figure that represents Star Convoy on my shelf. (And he makes a nice companion for his Throne of the Primes buddy as well).

 

Screw it, I just ordered this guy even though I had talked myself out of him last week.

 

Gotta admit, this looks about as good as it possibly can given the many differences in design and proportion from the base Leader OP mold to the original Star Convoy toy/artwork!

 

Still waiting on Super Megatron.

Saw it feom Facebook post that someone used shockwave lab SL 51 add on for siege Soundwave on Star Convoy to stablise the feet, and it turned iut to be quite effective.

Perhaps shapeway or Dr Wu can mass produce this.

 

Would be nice if the usual third parties made something made specifically to help with Star Convoy.

Got mine too last Friday.Very satisfied how it turned out. Imho, this should have been the basemold for Star Convoy ver 1 instead of the PotP mold. Why? Hb really dropped the ball with all the cost cutting for the latter. Orion Pax's hollow shins and lack of red paint apps which Star Convy now have? What a waste.

As for the head splitting on why he's a flatnose track instead of the long nose? Based on the lore, this conversion happened before his, Convoy's death in 2005.The Star Convoy we all love is one post Victory.

 

He sure has some nice porportions for a straight Potp Op remold doesnt he? Totally agree that as if this mold was meant to be Star Convoy in the first place. Now all we need are some 3rd party tank thread fillers and a Mictomaster Hot Rod to complete the look.

 

Star Convoy does not have an alternate mode of his own for this toy. It is Optimus Prime’s alternate mode.
