This happened to me with Springer - The cashier even told me they don't pay attention when stocking items. He was on shelves more than month before the street date, and when I went back days later he had been put back on the shelf for another customer to be denied. I know this isn't a huge widespread problem, but it's evidence of an "I don't care" culture at Target stores, which, if you're a shareholder or board member is not what you want to hear. I always believe in taking this to the top when things like this happen. It's an issue of training and should be addressed with store employees by top level management.

    Not really
As a side note, the store manager actually let me do it because I told them that there system was broken, he said they would just update the inventory list because "The Customer Is Always Right!!!"

Its one thing if a store manager is aware of it or lets you through with it to keep the customer happy. Working in retail myself I've seen all sorts of insane stuff happen. One time a cashier forgot to scan a $6 bottle of cranberry juice, when the customer was near the exit door and the manager told her they were ok and walked out the door with a free bottle of juice.

I'm just saying again, if you do it in a sneaky fashion like others have described, you could end up in trouble with the law.

Yeah, target pulled that with Springer when I tried for him.
Saw on the sightings thread someone reported two Springers at a nearby Walmart.
Got there ultra early the next morning and found one left.

    Bought on sight.

Getting Starscream was no problem for me back in like, March.

I was denied the purchase of Springer in July at a Target. I just got him from Walmart a few days later.

Fortunately, I did not run into that problem with Impactor or Barricade. :)

Granted, it was at a different location, but still...

Lol American retail be craaaazy. :D

I've never been denied anything that's on a shelf.
Though I have had to deny people myself because there was no price sticker and it wasn't on the till, meaning I had no idea what to charge. But then the place I worked was a freaking joke.

I saw Thundercracker at Target today, but I didn't attempt to buy him since I already got him months ago from EE.

Bringing two items to self checkout, scanning and paying for one, and leaving the other behind shows intent to do something sneaky.

Bringing two items (of clearly equal value, like 2 Siege Voyagers) to self checkout, scanning one twice, paying for two items, and leaving with both has a more innocent explanation. If questioned, you can just say one didn't scan, so you scanned the equally priced one twice like you've seen cashiers do. They might cancel the sale, but won't go through the hassle of punishing (and alienating) a customer who has a reasonable explanation. The store can't expect customers to understand about release dates, especially if the stores don't understand release dates well enough to stock accordingly. Hell, I don't follow release dates, and I care enough about Transformers to be on this forum.

If you were to go back and return one of that figure your receipt shows you bought two copies of (one was for a gift, and the recepient got a duplicate), no one at the store would mind that, either.

I hadn't noticed the skulls molded into Impactor's shins until I saw smf's pic. I am now much more inclined to get this figure.

Maybe they shouldn't put shit out if people can't buy it yet. Its a waste of everyone's time.

Joe and Jane Average Employee at a Walmart/Target/wherever aren't going to know the difference. They're getting a bunch of identically boxed robot toys that they figure all go out on the shelf just like all the rest of the ones they've put out there for the last 11 months. They're not likely paying attention to the character in the box or knowledgeable enough about the franchise or toyline to notice that some of them are supposed to be out for sale right now and some aren't. Nor are they likely paid enough to run every single one through the scanner to figure out which ones aren't supposed to be sold yet.

You really think it's fraud to scan, and pay for, different equally priced items from the same product line from the same manufacturer?

Golly, don't ever remove the tag from your mattress or sing Happy Birthday!

As I said in my post earlier, it has nothing to do with how much the item costs or if its the same price, its an inventory issue. I could be wrong, but from your posts I've seen elseware don't you run a business of some sorts with selling figures? Do you not ever keep track of inventory or wonder why things are missing? Imagine working at a giant retail store and dealing with it, and than having to figure out or explain to upper management why those things are missing?

I'll say again, by baiting and switching you left with something you technically didn't pay for because its not the same inventory item/upc number, and now because of that, that stores inventory for that item will be off. I have a lot more respect and understanding for those types of things working in retail myself for nearly 10 years now.

Okay, theft. Since you didn't buy that item, you bought the one that you left at the shop. You took the one you have without paying for it, the fact you "forgot" the one you actually bought doesn't make a difference.

In one ear and out the other. I don't care what they do and don't know about anything that they're selling except, its over in aisle ___. The point is don't put shit out on the shelves that a customer cannot purchase. Its clearly an annoyance and a hassle for customer and staff alike. If it has a street date, the store chain should abide by it.

I can't have made the meaning any clearer.
