I'm not holding my breath for a complete S1 cast, but I feel like we will get some of the trans-metals, and OPOP feels inevitable but I don't even want to think about what that price tag is going to look like. I also think we will get a few more Beast Wars II/Neo favorites like Tasmania Kid, Galvatron. Idk, I'm just speculating. Point is it's a good time to be a Beast Wars fan.

Alright so my bad, looks like AJ isn’t charging yet, but that was $170 and change which is like the exact amount BA should be, and I haven’t bought anything near that amount in months. In fact the last AJ purchase I made was BW Megatron.

Honestly, the "poor taste" ones crack me up. Its a frigg'n robot...

 

I mean, it's a robot that was designed unneccessarily sexualized. If it doesn't bother you, that's fine. However, there are some very good reasons why some people consider it bad taste. Especially in a community that is so dominated by men, it can make some women (for example) feel a little put off.

 

That's never stopped anybody. Fritz Lang gave us Maria in 1927, when the concept of robots was still in its infancy.

Exactly. A lot of this reflects to in how some men see women, which can be an inspiration for the creation of characters. This is really important, because in some sense, it psychologically can support the idea that the way something looks, feels, is appropriate. I've seen situations where people do actually see women just as objects. That can be a really uncomfortable and abusive situation to be in. It's easy, as a man, to say "idk why anyone would be offended by that" because most of us are men. However, when you are subjected to that kind of behavior, sometimes on a daily basis, then see it in a toy, you begin to feel uncomfortable with your surroundings, your hobbies, and sometimes that can cause a lot of mental and psychological damage for some women, because they feel like they're nothing but an object as they seem to be portrayed as in really little things.

A lot of people's ideals, no matter how trivial, are indeed a reflection into our media, and products, such as this one. As such, we should be mindful to recognize that we all have different experiences and feelings towards things like these. Just because it doesn't affect us, doesn't mean it isn't real, and just because we think it isn't real, doesn't mean their feelings don't matter.

In case of this figure, I love how it is because that's the character, but I do understand how it might be uncomfortable for someone else. On the other hand, not everyone will be uncomfortable by it, but I think it's important to recognize how we can better this franchise as a whole by realizing these kinds of things.

 

the alternative is that if someone can get past blackarachnias appearance and design origins, they would realize that she is actually one of the strongest female characters in the franchise. shes portrayed better than most versions of arcee (girl sidekick in sunbow, secretary in headmasters, damsel in distress in animated, ptsd riddled psychopath in prime), blackarachnia always finds a way to control the situation to her desired outcome. she is the single best written female character in the franchise

 

Being a woman, I can honestly say I'm not offended by BA.
My take is that whoever created her has one hell of a boob fetish.

Blackarachnia is no more oversexualized than Dinobot is. She has big tits and an hour glass figure, but otherwise her design isn't obscene. Dinobot, meanwhile, has gigantic pecs and biceps, a bodybuilder's proportions and a prominent, *ahem*, rigid grill structure. Nobody got hot and bothered over him. In fact most of the males in BW have far more detailed and laughably sensationalized anatomy, especially the Transmetals, than Blackarachnia ever did.

People are looking for things to be offended by. Don't let them. Not every depiction of women that renders them with typical attractive qualities is "objectifying" them, and it comes across as not understanding how the real world works to believe that. If someone is stupid enough to be swayed into thinking women are just objects because of a toy, then they probably already had that mindset. There's no societal responsibility there, it's just idiots being idiots, and they're probably idiots in other ways as well. In actual reality nobody looks at a hot woman and thinks "ah, nothing but a mere object" unless they've already got problems that run far deeper than a cartoon robot from the 90's. To assume otherwise makes me question how much social interaction, especially with women, one actually has.

And that's another thing, Blackarachnia has existed for decades now. If she was going to cause problems, we would've seen them already.

I was offended by quite a bit of the posing done with FT Rouge(even by FT themselves), I expect the same will inevitably happen with this character. Blackarachnia DOES have an overly sexualised body, she was based on a stripper for Pete's sake. Juvenile casual sexism and misogyny is still unfortunately a part of this fandom and I fully expect to see some cringeworthy and straight up offensive comments and images once she is released.

You had it right at juvenile, but you just had to double-down with "sexism and misogyny." It's not sexist or misogynistic to be immature with your girl toys, it's just immature and stupid and makes you look like a loser. That should be good enough, but now you have to act like it's some oppressive anti-woman move to be childish?

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. You applying deeper meaning and hatred to what is just stupid, eye-rolling behavior is almost as juvenile as the people you look down upon.
