Fair and valid on all counts. Just thought I'd mention since the Porsche license seems to be a hot topic.

Actually, has it ever been officially confirmed that G1 CJ was supposed to be a Porsche 924 or 944? Have been looking at old G1 clips and even accounting for the chibi look, I don't see how CJ was either (I always thought he was a porsche as well but not so sure anymore). Lifelong car fanatic here btw.

Hasbro wouldn't care about authencity in the generations line, like that. Highly doubt wheeljack is a licensed lancia, he's just brick like, long enough, and the right paint apps to resemble one.

I know no one cares about my opinion but I'm going nexr year Galvy, book it .... that will slap the shit out of any sense we had leaving the hobby for about a good two years as we chase the dragon ... the Unicron crowdsource is the clear tip-off here ...

Would be nice . I mean , we already have Rodimus ( kinda ) , Hotrod , TM Hotrod , UM . The hole is right there in front of our faces . Takara should be able to see & know , we need a Galvatron.

I wonder if any new MPMs will be mentioned or revealed by the end of NYCC.

As for Galvy, he’s not really on my ‘Must Have’ list. Like Roddy, I never really cared for the character.
I’d be happy for those who finally get him, though.

Aside from my 3 Most Wanted MPs, I’d definitely buy Hoist, TB or Windcharger

Ah, 2.0s are necessary evils if you even want to call them that. How else do you expect to bring in new collectors but with popular and recognizable characters. At the same time keeping things fresh for those whose primary interest may not really be Transformers. Maybe thays why so many other TF lines have came and gone and after all this time the MP line is still around.

There was a time I would have loved getting a Galvatron back in 2011. Due to lack of new characters, slow release, redos, + versions I would prefer they stick to S1 & S2.

Back to speculation. I believe Galvatron will get released between MP-50-59. Followed by Rodimus Convoy 2.0 between MP-60-69. Galvatron is the last release from an old rumor back when the line was though to be all commanders. Since then the rumored releases have slow been put out every 10 or so releases.

    MP-10 Convoy 2.0
    MP-22 Ultra Magnus 2.0
    MP-36 Megatron 2.0
    MP-44 Convoy 3.0
    MP-XX Galvatron

With Starscream 3.0 and Soundwave 2.0 rumored. I think Takara is far from done with redoing characters. An insider hinted at fan rage when new G1 molds where redos of characters already done. Could just have been talking and Prime and Bumblebee.

I doubt Takara will be done with a character just because it got a + release. They seem to be stuck on releasing the same characters. All that is left Lambo wise is a Red Sunstreaker and Deepcover which has been help back for some unknown reason. A 2.0 Sideswipe gives them another 5 releases. Sideswipe, Redalert (retooling), Clampdown, Tigertrack, Deepcover.

Bring on MP-49 and MP-50 reveals.

Dude, come on. I imagine a bunch of us agree with most, if not all of your sentiments, and would rather speculate about a bunch of characters we have yet to see made in this line, but Prime was just redone for the third time, and Bumblebee is just about to be remade himself despite being only five years old and a helluva lot more recent than Sideswipe, Soundwave, Grimlock, or others. Takara's kind of forced our hand here, by redoing something a bunch of us thought was "checked off" and not going to be redone so soon.

This is a speculation thread. Not a wish list thread. If you want to speculate about things other than redos, everyone is free to do so, and been free to do so. It's just that we have to factor in redos of older molds more than I think a bunch of us anticipated because of MP-45 happening (and to a lesser extent, MP-44). Is what it is. If you want to start speculating about Galvatron, Cyclonus, or whatever and change the conversation a bit, you and anyone else can. If you're ignorant the reality of the line that we must now factor in when speculating about what is next and what is likely and all that and how that affects how the discussion goes in here, that can't be helped.

When the toy that would become Cliffjumper was sold in the Microchange line, it was called a Porsche 924 Turbo. All of the catalogs called it that, and it was called that on the box.

I was greatly interested to see the WFC Cliffjumper is based on a Starion to the extent that it is. I wouldn't think they would license one toy out of a line for no real reason, but it's astonishingly close. I need time to study it more closely, but I can't see where any details were altered. Theoretically that should put them in requiring-a-license territory.

Anybody have any idea how popular Cyclonus is with the Japanese market? I know he and Scourge were in Headmasters, but they were kind of dopey comedic relief, right? I want to believe he's popular enough to get the official MP treatment (especially if they get to Galvatron), but I have my doubts.

A few years back it was mention by an insider Cyclonus, triple changers, and dinobots were not being considered because they weren't popular enough. Don't know if this still holds true.I haven't heard any mention of Scourge.

However It was also mentioned most of the S1-3 were already designed just waiting for the greenlight. I believe this was before the change to anime accuracy and more articulation so they probably need to be redesigned.

    How else? Reissues...

The reason 2.0s (or 3.0 or 4.0 or...) happen is because redoing popular characters tend to sell better than doing more obscure characters for the first time. While it can suck for those of us trying to complete a cast, I can only say it so many times: TT isn't trying to complete our collections. It's actually the last thing they want us to do...finish.

    Tinfoil hat time. What if...

Porsche gave Takara a final no-go on licensing. Takara decided to do Cliffjumper as a different car and picked the Starion. A deal was signed for a chibi MP Starion and a normal-proportioned version in the WFC line.

I don't necessarily believe this theory, but it seems juuuust plausible enough, and if it is true, WOW. I mean WOW. Seismic implications.

Seriously though, I don't think they would change the car to some other make/model completely. I think they could make some generic red chibi vehicle that could pass as CJ w/o a license.

Either that or it's just another example of HasTak skirting licensing...it's not an uncommon occurrence, especially in the Generations lines.

Ah, but that's not really the "Masterpiece way" either now, is it? So far every car that can be licensed has been. So the route you suggest would also be a wild departure for the line.

I don't know, the last time I can think of when a toy was this obviously based on a specific make and model, with all details faithfully recreated, was RID Side Burn. And we remember how that turned out...

I'm not enough of a car enthusiast to know all the examples and what they are supposed to be, but there was a thread about it somewhere on the site. Most of the Generations line earth mode cars are based on some real car. There was something in the Cybertron line that looked heavily inspired by some real car that I don't recall. I think the toy was a purple care.

How close is the new Wheeljack? I didn't see good enough pics to compare it, but what I did see looked fairly similar to the Lancia.

A Starion is plausible, and in chibi form, few would notice the difference. For the rest of us who would leave him in bot mode, it wouldn't matter because we would have an MP CLIFFJUMPER.
