And it transforms Into a Mecha Bug Godzilla!! Yes, be prepared for one hefty price tag, but the play value in Diaclone reboot stuff arguably justifies it. Big powered was on my desk for weeks.

I'm surprised that so many of us feel this way. I was almost worried about saying I was disappointed in the shift back to Earth based stuff because G1 is the bread and butter of the fandom. Fortunately calmer heads prevail here!

I still like the look of the new figures and I'll no doubt buy a few, but between MP and 3P G1 stuff I'm kind of bored of figures that don't add a bit of modern visual spice.

I just hope that Wheeljack and Cliffjumper (and by extension, Bee) have stylised enough alt modes to fit in with my Siege stuff. I'd definitely buy a new Bee/Cliffjumper regardless of style, but in terms of earth mode Wheeljack the Generations version is still a stonker and won't be easily replaced.

Went into town to pick up a heavily discounted Stormtrooper [first SW Black Series figure I got]---mostly wanted a Stormtrooper and could not say no to effect parts. What I didn't anticipate was finding new Siege! Bought the only Springer [who was bundled up with a Starscream...not Thundercracker?]. I had to talk myself into it...am happy with my G30 Springer as it is.

I had to watch TWO video reviews to figure out the alt modes...instructions were not the best. I am absolutely delighted by the number of locking joints and the overall complexity of this thing. I was veeeery lukewarm until these two reviews though! The Stormtrooper is very similar in joint allocation to NECA figures, but the ratchets are strong and his freaking ankles can tilt, meaning he can do more than just sit upright. Getting superb figure like this Springer for under 30 pounds does make me question why I am still after some 3P bots.

Annoyingly Mirage is growing on me in-hand so much I just might have to snag another to try backpainting his calves with paint that doesn't make 'em A-splode.
There's, uh, there's gonna be an earth mode Mirage in wave 3 of Earthrise, isn't there? But only if I actually go through with buying him, yeah?

Love 'im. What with Bluestreak and Ratchet, I'm even closer to having a complete Ark '84 crew. Just need Wheeljack, Sunstreaker, Gears, Huffer and Cliffjumper now.

I tell you one thing, if we get a Cliffjumper in Earth rise, and he isn't redone as Hubcap (even if he's released in Selects), I'm gonna Scream!!!!!!

Righto, off to the cinema for Rambo :)

WFC Grapple looks good! Will be pre-ordering that. My 'bots could do with more Voyagers.

If I didn't have Toyworld Orion and MMC Spartan I'd have bought Siege Impactor and be itching to preorder that Prime + trailer.

I can kinda follow the logic of people annoyed that we're getting Earth Prime and Earth Starscream so quickly after excellent Cybertron-mode versions... but I don't agree with it. Buying toys isn't compulsory, after all.

Hoping this week will bring in-hand images of Deluxe Spinister. I want him to be a bit bigger than the IDW Scavengers he'll be shelved with (TR Krok and Misfire) so want to see some comparison pics...

To be honest, other than loosing transparent blue and the branding in English, how much more earthy can that mirage be?

(Oh look, the Shockwave pose. The Sexisms ARE ALL DEAD)

If you've been following these little reviews over the last few days then I think I'm ham-fistedly hammered home the theme that the 1986 Autobot lineup was going for - easy identification through a primary colour palette of personalities. Today's figure - Arcee is no exception to this, so in addition to Fast, Old, Dumb, Smart we can now add Girl. Yes, Girl was considered enough to be a unique personality in 1986. Oh man, this is uncomfortable.

Considering she was made to explicitly prove that girls were into the Transformers too and deserved representation, she swings back and forth on that axis hard. She's implied to kick ass and be as tough as her male counterparts, yes, but then she spends an inordinate time worrying over the safety of others and being protective rather than proactive. This is to say nothing of what happened when Hasbro's influence fell away and the Headmasters anime relegated her to staying back home doing busywork for the others. It comes to something when this isn't even in the top ten worst instances of stereotyping to come out of Japanese Transformers media. At least they weren't able to get her naked.

Of course, the pendulum swung back way too hard with her IDW appearances, starting with a horrendously misjudged attempt to examine gender in Cybertronian society that was later addressed but left profound and difficult problems with both Arcee's character and the IDWverse as a whole. Now she was a bloodthirsty psychopath who took a decade of rehabilitation before she was even slightly recognisable.

So what of the toy? It's very, very Arcee. Pink all over, Princess Leia buns, skinny proportions and barely an inch that can actually transform. Yeah, this is the problem with female transformers isn't it? Aside from Windblade and Elita-1 they almost always just carry their alt mode on their backs like disturbingly sexy tortoises. Arcee's doesn't jut out as far as Moonracer et al, but it's still a hefty old rucksack she has to hoik around on that slender frame. The few touches of black help break up the pastel onslaught of pink and white, so cheers Takara for omitting them so you could be screen-accurate in your version. And with those tiny hands she is forced to eschew the usual 5mm hand holes, instead getting rectangular slots that have an edge of plastic at the bottom that stops her gun handles from going all the way through. Why? It's infuriating, and makes it look like she's not even sure how to properly hold a gun. Considering she comes with two of the damn things as well as a pair of IDW-inspired swords it's incredibly frustrating.

(seriously if anyone knows of a safe way to trim down that little hand-shelf please let me know)

The guns actually fit snugly into her alt mode, and the transformation, though a bit weird the first few times, eventually just rolls right out with a few neat flourishes. You end up with something Lady Penelope might drive on Parker's day off for when she needs to pop down to Lidl for a top-up of Prosecco and a scratch card. It's a fine enough motor, certainly stands out alongside the rest of the Autoboys, and while it manages to hide away the guns, the swords have to awkwardly plug into the sides. Meh. Leave 'em. They're not much fun anyway and Arcee's sweet smiling mush is far too friendly to evoke her utterly mental IDW self.

I mean, I like Arcee's toy quite a lot, and it's still the best Arcee toy we've got overall. She's a history lesson all in herself. Look closely enough at her and you can see the entire sordid history of female characters in Transformers and all the problems invented along the way. I'd probably be more at ease with the thing if she could hold her guns right.

Open cockpit and sleeker non-greebly F1 cowling, maybe in part because my Dad's a big F1 nut some such small finessing details to make a "proper" F1 racecar would be a big pull for me.

Today we're all about this gangly biker boy.

    IMG_20191002_195720.jpg

An extraordinarily excellent figure for a character that had roughly 7 seconds of screen-time in one scene on Cybertron. Even stranger is that this is clearly an Earth mode design, one that didn't even appear in the show. Perhaps Season 4 would've provided the answers...

    IMG_20191002_194900.jpg

The alt mode is pretty phenomenal too, a low-slung chopper suits the Animated aesthetic perfectly.

I like how the barrel holders are sculpted like little saddle bags! Clearly a lot of love went into this guy.

Also, does anyone else get N Tropy vibes from that headsculpt?

I wasn't going to bother with Lost Light Fest/Inktober as there's too many characters in the mix that I just don't give a toss about, but I had a couple of stupid ideas last night for day 1 and 2, sooooo....TA-DAAAH!

    Day 1 - Rubble

    Day 2 - BUMblebee

    I make no apologies.

I don't remember her being that doting in s3. Hednasters and rebirth, sure. But it's been age since i wtched s3. I do agree those touches of black on hasbro version is a very welcome addition.

Fair enough. Didn't realise the greebling was that intense on him.

I don't care who it would be called, i just wanna slap a con logo on that. Looks flipping awesome.

Just had a quick chat with my niece who called home with some news....she now has an agent!

I think my parents breathed a sight of relief when she elaborated and said her agent is a woman as like me they've had horrible visions of Harvey Weinstein types so we'll see how things go, exciting news!

I've also been doing a spot of modding this evening and have taken one of the heads from my Marvel Legends Family Matters 3-pack Magneto and have removed the helmet so he has one to hold. I got an unmasked head with the Apocalypse BAF wave Magneto that arrived today and that's going with the 3-pack figures which is the classic red & purple costume.

The Apocalypse wave figure is a black & red costume which is presumably from a more recent comic run and looks quite nice, in addition to the unmasked head there's also a set of black gloved fists and some purple lightning effects that Storm can have. The stock hands out of the package are translucent purple and for me do a better job of suggesting Magneto's using his powers than any of the effects pieces.

    @Seeaich,
Thanks for the info on where to look for those Impactor bits, will definitely keep an eye out!
