I didn't like POTP Optimus. There was too much grey on the 'G1 Optimus' robot mode for my taste. (I did get Nemesis Prime, though.) I was hoping Takara would give us a more cartoon accurate deco, but they ended up doing something even better (imo). Star Convoy brings back the red on the shoulders which is a plus in my opinion, and I don't mind the remaining grey so much on 'Star Convoy'.

Between Star Convoy and POTP Nemesis Prime, we've got Optimus at his best and his worst. I wouldn't, however mind a recolour (maybe white Magnus or Shattered Glass purple) of the original POTP toy.

As for the stickers, I'm not even going to bother. I've removed them from all of my POTP figures, anyway. Besides, Star Convoy will be remaining in robot mode.

God this mold is so nice! Despite being a mostly Japanese fan Star Convoy not having an anime hurts his overall appeal.

It looks good in pic, but POTP Leader Optimus Prime is heavily infected with the cheap hollow plastic syndrome. There is no reason to think this character will be no infected with the syndrome.

Maybe with a big discount could get him but has no sense to pay top money for another CHPS Transformers.

They really stole star convoys thunder. Here’s hoping Megatron can regain some of that

I think it’s a matter of accepting that retooling of older molds is Takara’s current MO for their Generations Select exclusives. And it’s all gonna be subpar compared to what we’ve been getting with Siege. Robot modes all look pretty good though imo, but the altmodes are definitely lacking.

But even then, these are still Generations releases; deviation is to be expected. And in this case, I actually applaud the obscure homage to that one poster where G1 Optimus ‘evolves’ into Star Convoy.

My only hope now is that with Gen. Select - i.e. starting with this release - Takara is putting more care (plastic quality, tolerances, paint) into their products, cause I’m still carrying a scar in my soul from that lousy Big Powered release (although that is in part to blame on the TR molds themselves).

Was the Big Powered set really that bad? I never bought it because of the Headmaster gimmick, and never even bothered to watch any reviews for it.

I think they're pretty great honestly.

Not better than Legends Overlord, Twintwist, and Misfire on their own, but still great reuses with a lot of love put into them.

I like what I’m seeing so far. My only gripe is that I don’t like the detachable star on his chest. I would have preferred they retool the chest panels with the star on them and with the correct shaped windows.

Is there anywhere I can still buy him? He’s not showing up on BBTS, EE, or HLJ.

No worries, it’s an easy thing to overlook, needing an account, since not every store requires one

The moment I opened the set, I was extremely disappointed by how cheap the vehicles looked. I was literally thinking ‘did I just spent $140 on this?’ (a thought that rarely crosses my mind when it comes to Transformers). I was actually suprised to see so many people still liking the set, so it’s just my standards. I only got back into Hasbro mainline at the tailend of PotP (around the same time as Siege got announced) where I feel the quality started improving. The years before I was strictly collecting 3P and never considered a CW or TR toy. And from what I have experienced so far of that line buying a few older pieces after Big Powered (TR Quake and UW Bruticus) I don’t think it was mere prejudice. Hasbro has been pulling ‘back’ 3P buyers for a reason.

On a shelf Dai Atlas looks good (better than Fansproject’s Dai-Z). But he’s not fun and feels flimsy. *sigh* I still have the set though, only in the hope that he will look nice with Star Convoy; and possibly the rest of the JG1 leaders, (if we’ll ever a Star Saber and a new Super Ginrai).

The inner bot looks really excellent.

This looks like it’s gonna be a great release.

Only real complaint is the shiny paint on the combined head’s forehead

Shockwave didn't have an Encore reissue. In fact, Shockwave was the only non-Takara toy that was released in the Japanese G1 line, because the company that owned the figure licensed it to everyone who asked.
