As a kid I thought OP won because he caused the Decepticons to retreat, but as an adult and being objective, Megatron kicked Primes @$$. He literally died from his wounds from the fight. Megatron still held on.

Also got to go with Megatron.

Optimus got the upper hand and he would've won...but then, even he knew from personal experience that Megatron couldn't be trusted, he allowed himself to be distracted by Megatron's plea for mercy. Thus Megatron got his hands on a gun and if it hadn't been for Hot Rod's interference, Optimus would've been fataly shot immediately (as shown in the Marvel adaption). Instead, he got a few seconds longer to live (during which he still did nothing) before finally getting shot.

Optimus had the upper hand, he could've won, but through OP's own mistakes, Megatron came out as the winner by being slightly less wounded.

 

This is actually a really tough question. One on one, I would say that Megatron won the fight since he lived, and Optimus died. However, like Kup said, Prime "turned the tide", causing the Decepticons to retreat. Had Prime not arrived when he did, who knows? The Decepticons might've pretty much ended the war right there. But given that Prime ended up returning from the dead anyway, I'll say that his sacrifice was worth it. So my vote goes to Prime.

 

Same reasoning as above. Megatron was alive after the fight, even if he was just hanging on by a thread. Optimus died of his wounds.

 

I still go with Prime, Megatron would have died if he hadn't ran into Unicron and technically did die as he was reformatted into Galvatron.
Beating someone to death with your bare hands> than hurling a stalactite through their side and shooting them several times with a blaster.

 

I had to say Optimus because he dealt the final blow that left Megatron incapacitated causing the Decepticons to retreat. Granted, Optimus died from his injuries later, but if Unicron wouldnt have rebuilt Megatron's body into Galvatron, he would have died as well. I can certainly see why some would say Megatron won since on screen, Optimus died first. Utlimately, its just a matter of opinion though. Both were mortally wounded.

 

Megatron's fate can be debated but I say he would have survived had he not encountered Unicron.

 

The fact he of all people couldn't defend himself or they were even willing to take such a vote in front him shows you how bad off he was. Even Soundwave signed off on him as a lost cause, and Soundwave is probably smart enough to realize not to make an enemy of Megatron.

 

There is no evidence that megatron was going to die from his wounds. Badly beaten, easy prey, long time spent getting repaired, certainly. But dead? I'm not convinced. I give this win to Megatron, since he could have lived on. Prime defo didn't.

Prime lost his fight, but he won that battle.

Are we judging the winner based on the outcome of the battle/fight or based on the survival afterward? Him winning the battle is the fight. His personal survival is really a different topic.

Maybe, but seriously doubtful, especially once he was set adrift in deep space. Would just be a matter of time before he either passed due to his injuries or due to a meteor hitting him. Might have even gotten caught in the gravity of a planet or star and been incinerated.

 

You guys are looking at this in terms of a standalone duel. The movie certainly has a hand in presenting it that way for dramatic purposes, but the fight doesn't stand alone and wasn't fought for its own sake. Their smaller fight was part of a larger battle, and both Optimus and Megatron had objectives to accomplish via the fight. Megatron wanted to take Autobot City and vanquish the Autobots "forever". Optimus Prime wanted to stop Megatron at any cost and protect Autobot City.

Optimus Prime achieved his goal.

Megatron did not.

 

Megatron won that fight. Sure, he cheated and used heelish tactics like a WWE wrestler: using foreign objects (the gun and the laser lance) and taking advantage of outside interference; using someone else (Hot Rod) as a shield, but Megatron did win that fight... and despite all of that, Prime still could have won, but let Megatron stall and monologue on long enough to gain the upper hand.

Fun fact: In the movie, Starscream jettisoned Megatron from Astrotrain by letting him drift out into the depths of cold, open space. In the comics, Starscream physically kicked Megs out of Astrotrain.

 

What i meant was, he lost his fight against megs but won The Battle Of Autobot City. I was being poetic in my phrasing.

 

Megs won, yes, but let's not forget, he won by playing dirty. It was clear who the better fighter between the two was, Megs said he'd crush him with his bare hands and ended up using his fusion cannon, nearby rubble, a random lightsaber, etc. Right after the "I'll crush you with my bare hands" line, too. (Not taking into account the deleted parts from that scene and just talking about the final scene, of course)

And it's not like Megatron had taken any damage when he blasted and tore his way into the shuttle or upon arriving to Earth and Autobot City, so both him and Prime were as fresh as possible. Prime would've won, even without weapons.

But all's fair in love and war, so by all accounts, Megatron would be considered the final victor here.

 

And if Not for Unicron?

Sure Megatron could’ve survived, and with the right medical care maybe Optimus would have to, remember Perceptor wasn’t exactly a doctor

 

Given Megatron said something like 'I would have waited for an eternity for this' before mortally wounding prime, I would say Megatron won the individual fight.

 

It was very clearly a draw. Megatron couldn't even walk, he had to be carried away, and was helpless as Starscream tossed him out. He would've expired in space if Unicron hadn't come around.

But he didn't. Right after he said that line Optimus clocked him with a hay-maker that sent him falling several stories. The wounds that killed Prime were from earlier.

Maybe so but I think Megatron's life mission was to kill Optimus Prime, probably more so than conquering than the universe.
