Same! I think most of (if not all) the questions and doubts have been cleared but, but nothing beats having it in your own hands; especially when figures are significantly better than expected :)

Look who rocked up in the mail today :D :

    20190923_140305~2.jpg

Unfortunately he came with damage out of the box, I could hear something rattling around when I was opening him and found that one of his knee guard thingys have broken off:

It looks like the pin joint ends have been sheared off as the pin is still in the leg. So my choices are, try and get ShowZ to sort it, but I don't fancy posting this back to Asia, or try and fix it myself. Any pointers?

Generally, when I have this kind of stuff with showz they send you a part to fix it. For example, a blast off I had, had a broken ratchet and they sent the entire leg to me. So they would probably do the same as long as you show a picture of the damage and what leg it's on.

So I decided to take a closer look and compared the part that had come off to the opposite leg and it turns out I was wrong, it's not a pin joint. It can just clip back on and seems to hold just fine, and still swivels forward and back as intended. Looks like I jumped the gun a bit. Crisis averted

So, a few impressions, well I don't have much to add that hasn't already been said. The redistributed die-cast is nicely done. The paint makes such a difference compared to the official. It's nicely applied and really shines under better lighting (see pictures). The eyes are a bit too dead for me so I'm going to have a crack at painting those a brighter red. The ratchets all feel nice. The packaging is as bad as others have said. I've never seen such no frills packaging even for a KO. Otherwise I'm happy with this guy :)

Much prefer this guy to the official. I wonder how much of the £140 I spent on the official I can make back on eBay...

I honestly don't get Hasbro's game with the MPMs. Masterpiece should mean perfection. And yet their two biggest MPMs now, they make just... bizarre paint decisions.

First we had MPM-03 which looked great up front, but closer inpsection revealed some bizarre paint choices. The blue was off. Some things were unpainted that should have been painted. The weird grey metal clashing with the silver for no evident reason. The strange and under-applied "yellow-gold". The silver painted windshields. Even for cost reasons, they could have slightly raised the price to actually pain the unpainted parts. And they could have done nothing but ised slightly different colors with the same paint regions for a better effect. The question is: why did they do it?

And now with MPM-8 vs this KO, we have the same thing.

When I saw MPM-8's paint job I thought immedietly "here we go again". First we have the weird red parts (for some reason). Next the unpainted parts. Oh and the bizarre choice in Silver.

Is hasbro clear what they are wanting out of the MPM line? Do they want to make the "ultimate, improved version of a toy that came out 10 years ago". Because in that case, mission accomplished with MPM-03 and MPM-8. They're great upgrades, but definitely done in a manner that, I think, intentionally echoes the toy designs of ROTF Leader Prime and 2007 Leader Megatron. Kind of two thirds a step towards movie-accurate perfection, but one third a step towards homaging the toys that were out with the movies.

I say this because looking at LT-02 and the KO MPM-8, it's clear what trying to make "as movie accurate as possible" entails, which isn't even really a matter of Hasbro doing more as it is making some different choices in colors and application.

The question is... why? Did the guy working on the paint mask at Hasbro/Takara not have the same reference graphics available to him that the guy working at the KO companies that made these guys did? That seems... unlikely.

I'd love someone to ask that at a con of Hasbro: why are they charging $160 for an MPM with a pain job that is less accurate to the movie than a KO. Is the MPM line meant to echo the toys?

The one where this is going to come out probably the worst is with the inevitable MPM Starscream. If Hasbro chooses to the TF-1 paint scheme, chances are they do a butchered "toy-ized" version of the F-22's famouns paint job. If they do the RotF Cybertronian paint job, chances are they're going to do, again, an inaccurate on. And either way it goes, both will be offered by a 4th party, and both corrected. So why not get it right from the get go?

Hasbro's has a situation where they are creating a collectors-oriented premium line, where the saavy collectors who prize movie accuracy are waiting on the the more accurate (and cheaper) 4th party.

Its an easy fix. Or of there is nothing to fix, it'd be nice to hear Hasbro say "we're homaging the toys you had as well".

This was my first reaction as the gold paint apps are all in the same place as the Honey Badger, but on the listing there's a drop down option for colour A (like Honey Badger) or colour B (light silver). Interesting. And just when I received mine as well. Now I'm conflicted :p
