This is going to sound silly, because it is, but the only thing - literally the only thing - that I don't like about Tyrant is how his shoulder pylons look in robot mode. To me, they look like he's delicately balancing giant blocks of cheese or pillows on his shoulders. They don't look solidly connected to him or just solid in themselves. Once I saw that I couldn't unsee it, and even though it's a small thing it grew to irritate me until it basically disqualified him from ever being in robot mode for me.

Not silly at all. 50% of the time I look at Tyrant, I think he looks awesome. The other 50%, what is up with those pylons?? It doesn't help that one of mine likes to collapse back in on itself from time to time.

 

I just got Tyrant yesterday. Was super excited too. I wasn't even expecting it till Tuesday. The only downside I had, was when I opened up the Cannon to turn on the light, I pulled out the paper that stops the connection and then I noticed my batteries were bad. They were leaking battery acid. Greeeaatt! I reached back out to BBTS to see if they can maybe send me a replacement light. Guess we'll have to see what happens. The figure itself is great tho! Love the look and couldn't be more pleased!

Side note -- I know it's an issue getting the chain on the matrix cause of the plastic on the matrix being a little thick, anyone have any recommendations on how they might have gotten their chain on?

Edit: Never mind, I played with it some more and got it! I did scruff the paint job very slightly on each side but a silver marker can touch that up. Barely noticeable anyhow.

Yup. Those feet didn't clean up as nice as the original in cannon mode but that's a small price to pay imo.

Ever notice a figure is missing a finger and then wonder just exactly how long it has been missing? Yeah, that's what happened with this guy. Horrible hands...

 

Yup. Mine's been missing a left hand's pinky...

Tyrant also holds his canon perfectly unlike Sovereign who drops it. And Sovereign's effect is useless cause it's too heavy to hold. I would of rather have a alternate cannon or head/faces.

The feet is the only thing on Tyrant that people bash him for and you can't notice it from the front.

 

Got this purple plastic psycho today. He came from a private seller so he's got a bit of wear, mostly on one foot but nothing that really stand out. I can see what people mean about the fingers, they were a lot different than I was expecting. I took the light out of the cannon just in case, but he doesn't appear to have any issues with holding it loft. Legit only real complaint I have is the green matrix, and that is the most minor of things.

I've found some floor polish fixes any looseness in the fingers. It helps.

Also , since QC is the topic mainly here, I did open up the shoulders on mine. As Emgo pointed out in his review, they don't ratchet right from the factory. I replaced the screw that compresses the spring for the ratchet on both arms. The "collar" of the mushroom head screw was too big in diameter. It was prevents the ratchet from working due to the spring was unable to compress it by creating friction in the enclosure.

I need my ratchets working properly. I did compress the springs a little so the ratchets were a little more buttery. Needed to also compress the spring for the outward thigh ratchets some.

I also found the treads rolled better after the wheel were put on correctly. They were put on backwards. Now they roll much easier. I added to floor polish to the hinge joint of the tread so it didn't fall over/in in tank mode when pressure or pushing was applied.

He isn't a bad figure. I prefer sovereign in sculpt and build. But Tyrant has his pros too. Especially the canon mode. He also is slightly taller.

 

Sovereign is clearly more toon accurate and his paint is lovely. None the less at the end of the day Tyrant just looks meaner and more menacing to me, and when we're talking about galvatron that's a big deal. So I have both but mostly display tyrant for this reason

 

I love a different take on a character. Coming in at #3 is Open and Play Big Cannon . Now for $35 at BBTS.
OP-02 Big Cannon

Won't hold a candle to Tyrant or Sovereign, but another take is always welcome on my shelf; especially at that price.

 

He came with a large Matrix of Leadership and a chain ala TF'86, and the central crystal is green instead of blue or white.

 

That Matrix is horrible. I took the one that opens from Masterpiece Hot Rod v1 and put a chain on it instead. I'll post a pic in a little bit. The one that comes with it is too big, wrong colored and shaped weird.

 

Anyone have spare hands or a spare finger for this dude?

They pop off so easy I missed when it came off.

I really just need one finger...
