If your dog poops in your house, they need to be disciplined every time. When a publisher poops out a comic in your LCS, they need to be disciplined every time as well with bad reviews. No stinky houses, no stinky LCS.
This is an elaborate analogy to be sure, but flawed priority wise for reasons I hope I don’t need to explain.
Funny enough, "characters starting and talking" is pretty much what MTME/LL was most of its time. It ain't bad. I can already can tell that this Nautica is less insufferable than Robert's one.
I remember Roberts Nautica to be a likeable and charming character. But then I actually read the comics.
The question is, with all the time you spend on message boards disciplining publishers for all of the bad comics you don’t read, how do you have time for anything else? It must be exhausting.
I remember a character so painfully obviously designed to be cute dorky girl archetype that her behavior and characterization never really extended past the checklist list of required personality traits. But then, I actually read the comics without blindly worshiping the author.
Whilst this isn’t exactly false, what they were talking about was written in a way that was infinitely more interesting then what IDW2 hasn’t churned out so far. I understand the story IDW2 wants to be telling and I don’t hate the concept, but thus far they’ve failed to make it interesting. As much as I loved MTMTE it definitely had its faults. However, the one fault it didn’t have was being boring. Even if I didn’t love what was currently happening, I was never bored. IDW2 thus far has failed to capture my interest ever. Ultimately though, IDW Phase 1 was mostly extremely average to poor too. I hope that one day IDW2 finds its Last Stand of the Wreckers or Chaos Theory or Death of Optimus Prime and kick starts some really quality stories. God knows it took the original IDW a long time to get into a stride.
For the first season, then both main IDW books started retreading and rehashing their formula. That got boring very fast. But I suppose it's different strokes and all...
Even the worst MTMTE/LL comic was far better than any issue of this new continuity. And there were bad issues, but even so I always found every issue to be entertaining and just plain fun to read. Even the bad ones like Swearth and the personality ticks. Maybe so with the personality trait checklist but I’d rather that than the absolute zero personality of all the IDW2 characters which check none of the boxes for me. A summary of an IDW2 comic makes the issue sound interesting but actually reading it is just a tedious chore that I just can’t connect with. And yet I feel compelled to read IDW2 just because it’s Transformers. I like to be informed of what happens in even the comics I call bad. I wouldn’t read it if it wasn’t Transformers though.
I think they should have gone the shadowplay route, I found that story captivating. But, I won't pile on.
Sure, if that's how you want to interpret "folks have just moved to other sites to engage in constructive criticism and/or praise."
Surprisingly not that bad of an issue. I found Nautics to be quite compelling as a character and bringing Road Rage into the fray was a nice touch.
This issue was enjoyable. More characters, more backround into the complexities of the universe. Sentinel Prime came across as significantly less obtuse than he did in mentions and his brief time back on Cybertron. My impression is that he is shrewd and capable, but fallen to complacency and dismissiveness about who he leads back home. The Nautica and Road Rage story was engaging. It established these characters well, and gave us a good glimpse into interspecies relations of this comic. I am enjoying there are important events occurring beyond the main plot. As to the art, it was good but I already miss the previous art.
