That's one of the early samples of the figure; before they finalized the colours and released the V1.

 

Anyone else’s V3 spending the week at JFK? Mine got there on Friday. I hope he’s at least having a good time.

 

Anyone else's V3 got a red LED in the rifle instead of the yellow/orange one? I notice they've also changed the colour and detailing on it (for the worse). I'm loving the new colour on the V1 head though, along with the darker running lights. The windows look pretty good too and the greater number of ratchet detents is pleasing, as is the non-wobbly left foot.

Elsewhere the QC isn't quite as good as my V1 (but then that seemed better than the V2 going by pictures I saw). More visible sprue marks, things don't quite clip together flush, pins not inserted quite right, paint not as rich as before. Nothing major you understand, just noticeable.

 

Anyone know if the Shattered Glass version is based on the V1, V2 or V3?

 

Yep, same. Sitting at JFK since Friday.

 

The V3 doesn't have any mould improvements per se, just tweaks to the deco. As the Shattered Glass version is an entirely new deco it doesn't really apply.

 

It comes with 2 heads and has the indent missing on the shoulder.

Lastly check out poor SG Megs nightmare.. LOL

 

Just checked my order. It should be getting my Shattered Glass version this Friday evening. Will post some pics on Saturday.

I believe TT & all other 3rd party offerings misinterpreted Optimus’ crotch & thigh pigmentation. It should be chrome or a bright silver. Prime’s crotch is the bumper of his alt mode especially based on the cartoon. The g1 toy had it right. I even went back and examined a few G1 episodes like “War of the Dinobots”, “Kremzeek”, and “Megatron’s Master Plan...”. Look at Grimlock’s Dino arms & tail (chrome parts), they are the same color as Prime’s smoke stacks, ab grill, crotch, thighs, & gas tanks (chrome parts). Even when Prime is next to Ratchet & Wheeljack there are differences.

 

Is this piece worth buying? I own a Magic Square Prime and a MP-44. I own a MP-36 and an IT Megs, thinking about buying a MP-36+ and would pair it with this piece, but how many Primes and Megs can one person own, it's getting to be on the Fett and Vader level (not there yet, but in a few years we will have so many promos and megs).

 

Do you feel it's worth having both MS Prime and MP Prime still? If so, maybe. If not, probably not. I have both this and MP-44. Don't feel like I particularly need both...then again, I don't transform my figures much anymore and those two scratch a similar itch. If you enjoy transforming your figures frequently, then there's probably more value in having multiple of the same character that have very different transformations.

As for this guy specifically...he's a very quality figure. I'd recommend him, however, who the fuck knows how many versions they will do of him, and they seem to make small improvements with each version. If you're going to get him, wait for the last version with all the improvements. The trick will be knowing when they're done...

 

In my personal opinion. You can never have enough Primes. I'm waiting on MS to open pre-order for the Sleep version to have a MS Prime. I will get MP44 when the price drops considerably and they fix the engineering and QC issues.

Seriously though, many people just want a piece of their childhood, exactly how they saw it. I can appreciate that. I had a good run of Hasui-styled bots, it’s cool that others are getting what they want. Even though they are wrong!

 

The series often (but not always, see Jazz etc) substituted chrome for white, as the former couldn't be adequately represented. The new 3P and Takara figures aim to replicate the toon aesthetic, hence the white/off white parts. It's not an error, it's a choice.

Absolutely yes, either as a companion piece to MP-44 or as a straight replacement. I happen to think it does some things (actually a lot of things) better than MP-44 and I'm sort of regretting caving and buying the latter now. I have three copies of TE-01 (two Optimus Primes and One Nemesis Prime) and I don't regret it at all. Pound for pound it's my figure of the year so far and I can't see anything beating it at this rate.

I just performed minor surgery on mine to swap the arms between the V1 and the V3. The smoke stacks were better on the V1 and one of the arm panels on the V3 didn't quite sit flush. I also had a very nicely placed waterslide on the V1 shoulder! I have a few other minor issues on the V3, but I think that's the extent of what I can swap out without pushing pins...
