You ever look back at really stupid things you did while collecting Transformers & think "what the hell was I thinking???  I do it all the time.

Back when ebay was new I sold my G1 collection except for Whirl, Roadbuster, Skywarp & Jetfire. I regret it every day. "WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING????".

Botcon Alpha Trion is like the holy grail of my collection. I don't know why but I freakin love that figure. I had an extra white Vector Prime junker so I put his electronics into Alpha Trion. I bough that Alpha Trion before Botcon from an Asian seller for about $45. He was listing them 1 after the other & I snagged 1. I only bought 1. "WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING????". A few years later a local collector offered me $300 & I actually sold him. Again "WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING????". That was a big mistake & it was eating at me so a little while ago I got a new one & I also have an extra white Vector Prime. I was just looking at them saying "WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING????". All that time & energy wasted swapping out the electronics just to end up right back where I started. Now I have to do it all over again. And I really don't feel like it.

A few years ago my father died & I freaked out & sold off a ton of my collection. Now I keep thinking about figures I want to play with but are no longer here. I'll probably never be able to replace my Noisemaze Mass Production Type, another figure I loved as much as Botcon Alpha Trion. And I sold most of my Armada, Energon, Cybertron & Prime/Arms Micron figures. Now the prices are stupid high & pretty much every single figure I want to buy back is over $100. "WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING????".

And there's a ton more. 

 

I used to like the generations Galvatron figure. The one that turns into a tank. For years, I was surprised by all of the hate that the figure got. Then, one day, I decided to mess around with the figure, and all of a sudden, the figure was crap to me! I somehow was so forgiving to all of the figure's flaws and short-comings, for years. Then all of a sudden, my change of heart occurred. Maybe I was just so starved for a Galvatron figure when he was first released. I did think that the tank
looked cool.

Maybe one day the same thing will happen to me in regards to how I feel about mp Tracks. I really like that figure, and everybody seems to hate on it.

 

I don't get the hate for MP Tracks either. He's not a perfect figure, but he's still pretty good! I like him quite a bit! Then again, I also like MPM Prime and Ironhide, so maybe I'm the weirdo...

My What the hell was I thinking always revolves around picking up a figure that I really didn't want and then realizing I was right to not want it... wasted money drives me nuts. And I almost always have already pitched the box before I really realize I hate the thing...

 

I saw the thread title and assumed you purchased MP-44....

lol Naw, I don't do Masterpiece, I'm mostly a CHUG guy. But I do want MP Blackarachnia but I'm afraid to buy her. I'm going to wait to see if it breaks & has QC issues.

 

I thought you broke your OS or MP-44 bro! But to the topic, I had a chance like 23 years ago to buy an original Dezaras(didn't know who he was and his name. All original (I didn't see the anime yet) so I let him slip bye.

 

I've bought way too many mainline and movie figures. That's not a dig at anyone that likes RiD15, Cyberverse, or the movies -- I just should have been focusing more on the chug sets I wanted. What the hell was I thinking...

 

Back in the 80's, something pissed me off, so I took one of my mini-spies (a white buggy type, if I remember), and put it on the floor and stomped on it. It wasn't destroyed, just damaged a little bit, but yeah, what the hell was I thinking?

 

I had the option to buy all my friends G1 Toys from him. I only snagged Jetfire, Omega Supreme, and Soundwave for $75. I could have got a complete G1 OP, Megs, Starscream, and a couple others. I didnt want those because I really wasnt that far into collecting and he wanted another $100 for them. I asked him later if he still wanted to sell them. He told me he sold them to a comic shop for only $150.

 

I went full out on Beast Hunters Prime. The money's gone, the figures remain.

I miss the money.

 

I spent $20 on eBay for this guy when Prime came out lol.

 

When unicron.com was new, and "kitbashing" was a thing, i decided to slice up my g2 hero Megatron because g2 Megatron needed a waist and knees. Dun f'ed up two awesome toys.

 

Worst. Toy. Ever.

 

Honestly, I regret most of the redecos I got of figures I already owned.

 

I don't have too many tales to tell of Transformers in this vein. An odd figure here and there that I paid retail for, only to wish I had waited for reviews and maybe discounts. I learned my lesson with other figures in other toylines...

Namely, the old "Collect 'N Connect"/"Build-A-Figure" things with DC Classics and Marvel Legends. Going on a desperate hunt to overpay on the aftermarket for two or more fifth tier characters, just to get an arm or leg for another figure? Then finding I could often find the completed figure on eBay for about the same as I spent on the two figures I didn't want anyway? What the heck was I thinking?

Or, the worst one... Green Lantern movie Parallax. I paid full retail for those figures to assemble that thing. They match nothing else in my collection, and, while the sculpting is amazing on that Parallax, it doesn't change the fact that it is basically a giant yellow poop monster. Incredibly well sculpted, with lots of great detail, but it looks like a creature made up of yellow-toned excrement.

What the heck was I thinking?!?

 

Don't regret these fine purchases. I LOVE Beast Hunters and still display them in my collection! Nice way to push remolds and new molds in a crazy direction. I wish Hasbro took more risks like this. I've recently gone through my collection to get rid of some of the stuff I don't enjoy as much anymore. Last Word: Star Wars Transformers -Good idea with poor execution but I managed to buy most of the molds...What was I thinking???

 

I purchased a ROTF Blazemaster once. With my own money. At full price.
