(I'm really surprised no one did this.) On this historic day, the first episode of what will become the pioneer of the countless Transformers shows, and one of the best TV cartoons in the 1980s, came out. Let us take a moment to celebrate the actual official birth of a franchise, even though the G1 Marvel comics in US came out first(I always viewed the cartoon as the pioneer though).
Well, happy birthday G1 Animated. I didn't read the comic until 1989 or so, so for me, today's the birth of Transformers.
Y'know what this means right...? The Transformers (cartoon) Franchise is a Virgo. And it's now 35 years old. jD001
I’m a Generation Z’er, so G1 seems really dated and weird to me BUT it kicked off one of my favorite franchises, so even if I don’t personally enjoy it, I respect it.
Watched the first disc of S1 to celebrate last night. More Than Meets The Eye 1-3 holds up, but damn Transport to Oblivion is such a great episode. Spike: So, I'm free to go? Soundwave: Free to go... to Cybertron! Damn, I'm like, Soundwave has a sense of humor??
We went through Season 1 a couple months ago as part of the series rewatch project I'm hosting on here. It holds up a lot better than I remember. There are a lot of very solid episodes and very few bad or embarrassing ones. Sadly that quality level doesn't hold up through the other 2 seasons. Still, it won't change how much I love the series and how important it is.
