Thanks both. Bought the first couple of each, will follow the reading order. I’ll post my thoughts in the comics forum. Not here
Hickman is by far the best comics writer alive today. The Fantastic Four -> FF -> Avengers -> Infinity -> Incursion Crisis -> Secret Wars saga is the greatest Marvel story ever told. God... with his love of high concept space sci-fi, artificial intelligence, and futurism imagine what he could do to Transformers. He'd turn Cybertron into a Dyson Sphere or something. It would be like nothing else we've seen.
RE: the book getting cancelled...I don't think you have anything to worry about there. It's selling nearly double what MTMTE and Lost Light were before they were cancelled. I'm tracking the numbers out of interest and they look fine. It's doing upper-tier IDW numbers. In case you're interested: (from Comichron; I'm including the 2nd orders into the totals) Items marked with asterisks [*] had their reported orders reduced by 10% due to returnability. #1: 22,861 #2: 13,738 #3: 11,358 * #4: 12,920 * #5: 10,793 * #6: 11,489 #7: 12,358 #8: 11,887 #9: 11,431
This is my first Hickman book, but based on what I've read so far...I would be very interested in his take on Transformers.
Hickman definitely brought me back to the X-Men after a decade of just keeping up with them. Now I can’t wait for each issue.
Not sure if this will help anyone, but I just discovered that this story is 100 times better if you sit down and binge it. I did that with issues 1-11 today and man....all of the emotional points, dialogue, character motivations etc flow so much better and I was able to pick up things I missed on the first go. Maybe the TPB will help. There actually is a fascinating story here. It’s just a bit rough reading it in single issues as it releases.
I like how we're talking about House of X in this thread that had nothing to do with Marvel. That series is so good, it's a miracle. I've never seen a comic unite an entire fanbase like this, everyone unanimously singing it's praises. It's amazing.
Maybe people just don't want to engage with the constant negativity? Even on the prior continuity the usual suspects couldn't wait to jump in and dump on the newest issue of MtMtE (and especially LL) so it's not an IDW2.0 specific case. Methinks that folks have just moved to other sites to engage in constructive criticism and/or praise.
IDW have had the longest running series comic series and gave life to absolute Z listers like Ironfist, Swerve, Whirl and Scoop Let's not go back to Regeneration 1 days or add more fuel to Disney's continual assimilation of all worldwide media franchises. IDW's doing a servicable job and stuff is picking up Plus, my girl, Road Rage, is actually going to get to do something in fiction for once.
As someone that defended the previous art, I feel like what we've seen from this issue is much more in line with what Lost Light/MTMTE used to offer, and I'm digging it. I also like that they're sort of jumping around in time now - presumably with this one 'taking place' a few issues ago, the start of the next arc is going to revolve more around Sentinel laying down the law after the two murders, and how that probably results in the existence of the Decepticons. I know everyone was mad that it started slow, but I feel like we're gonna start getting some pretty big advancements and seeing shit go down pretty soon.
This is a really bizarre take to me; I can't imagine Hasbro is going to take the passions of a message board seriously. Particularly when it's already been noted the sales are actually improved over the last couple of years of the previous IDW stuff so if anything the disappointment on this message board would be inverse to the sales. Was this supposed to be in blue text maybe? You *have* to?
