Kind of. I mean, I'm buying a lot of both Siege and Studio Series, because Siege is fun to mess with and because I'm not willing to invest the money and space on MP Bayverse toys. I wouldn't stop buying those.

But the majority of my collecting is G1 MP-style figures, of which I haven't bought an official after Ironhide. I simply do not care for the super Sunbow aesthetic the MP line is going for these days. Plus, I want a representation of at least all the Transformers that appeared in the first three seasons of the cartoon. I have no expectation that Takara is ever going to do that. So without 3P to deliver an aesthetic I want or to fill in the blanks then I'll never get the collection I want and would just quit.

Unofficial figures are almost 10:1 to official in my collection, so my collecting would slow to a crawl. I would have a lot more money in the bank though.

I'd probably continue buying the occasional CHUG, but for the most part yes.

It'd slow to an absolute crawl as I'd only pick up the odd g1 Takara MP release that come out once a blue moon nowadays.

I'm pretty much a masterpiece-only collector so I'd still get the Takara releases if they interested me... I wouldn't spend my extra money on mainline Hasbro stuff, though I'd probably start plugging away at the vintage stuff more.

As a G1 MP collector, it's an easy "Yes" for me because 3P is what got me into collecting in the first place, 3P is what has delivered the vast majority of what I collect, and 3P has announced all of the remaining figures I plan to collect.
On top of that, Takara's quality has dropped off and their Masterpiece line no longer delivers the type of product worthy of the price tag they place on it, Takara struggles to compete with 3P aesthetically, and Takara's glacial pace of releases that are relevant to a G1 MP collector have become a trickle that would barely qualify as actively collecting.

If HasTak took some kind of legal action to end 3P availability I would most likely stop buying all official product as well. This is not exaggeration and this won't even be hard.

Right now I am supplementing my 3P collection with the occasional official product.

Yes part of it are the principalities, but also, I simply don't need more. My kids don't even need more. I even have the RID and Siege lines put away for when my 2 year old son gets older. My older boys have most stuff from TFA and the first Bayverse movie up till now.

The stuff I want (all MP) mostly has a zero percent chance of being made by HasTak. Its all Japanese G1 stuff with a few obscure US releases like MP Whirl and Roadbuster, Broadside, and Sandstorm.

I can tell you a short list what product they might actually make that I would def still buy...
a large Scorponok to go with Metroplex, Fort Max, and Trypticon
MP Astrotrain (unless FT gets there first)
MP Blitzwing (unless FT gets there first)
maybe MP Jazz (Maketoys in bot and Zeta in alt has my display looking complete already but he is a special character so maybe, then again I might see the ridiculous price and just say forgetaboutit.)

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Is there any way HasTak could keep me buying their product? I suppose. Lower MP prices to what typical 3P currently charge and make the characters I actually want. I just don't see it happening.

I have enough collection for a lifetime. There are literally tons of figures that I have never transformed.

who's perpetuating rumors or lies ? this is not what this thread is about if you read my first post again and the reply's to this thread

this is a "what if" thread not a "zeta has been shut down" thread

yes it's off the back of that drama that got me curious as to how people would react if it ever did happen

For Takara I'm only interested in MP, and not even all of them. I don't care for all the other lines because for me those are things for my 10 year old nephew with too many corners cut (the toys vs collectables is another discussion, but this is how I see it for myself). For 3rd party I'm interested in MP and CHUG. If 3rd party would stop completely, I would only buy some of the Takara MP's, but certainly not all of them, and certainly not more than I'm buying now. Maybe even less, because the overall interest in figures would be lower probably.

don't forget HasTak keeps doing the same characters over and over so getting new characters to complete the G1 collection is very thin between V2's V3's V5000's, beast wars, mpm, and the repaints/reissues. It's already far and few in between MP, new characters is actually once in a blue moon. So yes official is only a filler for what 3P delivers

Will say tho, hasbro somehow gave/is giving us the first spinister. (and a good looking one at that). I would probably still buy official, but if something were to happen to the 3p market it would slow things down a lot for me.

i should have really put my stance on things at the start :)

like some here my transformers masterpiece collecting would go to a snails pace or even slower because of how slow takara are , i would probably still pick up the 1 or 2 masterpiece we get a year from takara if they were good enough but at the same time i would be forever looking at the gaps in my collection and what could have been which i think would bug me a little bit because as we all know there will be lots takara would probably never make for us

being a plastic crack addict i would probably spend more on hot toy/sideshow figures and spend a lot more on vinyl ( records ) so my bank balance would still be screaming at me :lol

Considering how most of my official collection are just unique MP molds (eg: Either Ratchet/Ironhide, not both) and the occasional fembots, yeah.

OMG recent events have really stirred the hornets nest... kind of.

Hasbros powers really only extend so far. 3p will still exist, worse comes to worse you'll just have to go further out your way to get it. Though the situation is a little stand offish now i think everyone hasbro and 3p just want to be cool. They should be peacful and avoid stepping on each others toes, i dont think war is good for eirher.

Hasbro should concentrate on what they do, they make transformers, so they should continue making media and driving the new direction for the brand, they dont really need to worry about 3p as they can steer any direction they choose. 3p will do what they do and pick pieces of whats left.

It is not 3p fault that masterpiece started off and rebooted and rebooted again. Thats going to put off some collectors surely. 3p has helped keep masterpiece alive and interesting while official has been figuring it out.
