Its funny sandrock is one of my least favorite designs in the TV show but the EW redesigns its probably my favorite. At least my favorite of the 5 master grade kits.
I actually had this HGCE Impulse unbuilt for awhile now. Decided to hammer it out. Now I got two Seed Gundams, haha. There's a few Seed Gundams I'd get in HGCE if they did them.
If it weren't for the ridiculously long, bulbous bits of its dong, ass, funnel binders, and chest, the Nightingale would actually look like a natural progression from the Sazabi even though they were design by the same person. In a different setting, it would look monstrous and menacing. I still wanted the stupid lobster, but damn a modernized look doesn't translate to a 3D object very well. You get three sets of hands cuz he doesn't come with anything else hyukhyukhyuk *shakes weapon-holding fist at Bandai* Beyond the initial "Rule of Cool" reaction to the Shenlong, it really is dumb and Wufei is the worst.
If it were more like the original lineart by Yutaka Izubuchi, I agree. It's more alien looking and menacing. More squat in stance so it has a lower, longer profile but its width balances everything.. the RE/100 just seems like it wants to be taller and so it makes some parts bigger than the others. The chest and upper body is attached now. Edit, with the feet reattached. Even poposing the legs pulled out wide, the limited range to bend the knees doesn't make it any shorter than when the legs are standing regularly,
Still building my RG Nu and so far so good. I used some of the decals on the MS itself, and also hand-painted some of the parts where some of the silver metallic stickers would be applied with my silver Sharpie. Even without its signature fin funnels, this RG Nu Gundam still looks fantastic. With the MS done, now to the weapons and funnels.
Agreed. For me it’s a tie between the Heavyarms Custom and the Sandrock EW. I was actually really disappointed in how they messed up the Sandrock Custom’s colours. They made the lavender way too purple, it needs to be more pastel. I plan to just get a second MG Sandrock and paint it when the time comes. For the Sandrock EW itself the whole design is just an improvement over the TV version in every way. It’s the same concept but a hell of a lot more attractive, from the nicely curved blades to the more streamlined and dynamic armour to the far more pleasing head design. Every other Gundam featured some radical change to the body or weapons, but Sandrock was just “revisioned” to look nicer. I actually took it down from the shelf just because I reminded myself how much I like it. :3 Oh shit they’re gonna make Sandrock Kai’s gear P-Bandai for sure. RRAAAAGGHHHHhhhh I don’t really care it’s just an uzi and some added thrusters.
With the weapons being fully built and applied with decals.... Now on to the iconic feature of the Nu Gundam (and probably the annoying part of the entire build), the fin funnels. So far, I only completed 2 of the 6 fin funnels. It's a bit repetitive, but if I can finished building the HG Geara Ghirarga with its annoying tail whip thing a few months ago then this shouldn't be much of a trouble.
Cobalt Blue, trust me. even the original Endless Waltz kit was the same way with the lavender color. Also the 1:144 HG came with a shield that's different from the one from the MG EW.. Surprised it didn't make it to the Exclusive version either. But you want the uzi...you care very much..... yesss.. Fin Funnels, sixth verse, same as the first... wait until you get all TWELVE!!!
Are you sure? Because when I Google screenshots and official art and just about anything there definitely seems to be some purple tinge making it a pastel blue lavender. TBF I momentarily forgot what colour lavender actually was so it’s not pure lavender but I don’t think it’s cobalt either.
i'll just leave this here: it's finished! (with proper build divers stand too!) 4 GN Drives! 4 BIG Swords! 12 GN Blade Bits! and 2 beam sabers.... all of the weapons! QUANTUM BURST-O! for an unrefined "on-the-cheap" kitbash, it looks way better than i expected! all it needs is a name... any ideas?
That's the problem about its only animated appearance being at night. It's supposed to be a brighter color. When I first built the kit, I used Testors straight out of the bottle Cobalt, it dries more of a lavender blue anyway.
Huzzah! It doesn't show up well in the photos, but I did do the detailing (well, panel lining anyway) on all of the Funnels. They held in place all right for the most part, but after a couple of them fell off, I just glued all of 'em in place. Not taking chances with carpet everywhere. Overall, I like this guy a lot, and I was never that enamored of the suit to begin with. I'm still not entirely sure why I bought this kit, but now I'm glad I did. Now it's a race to see who delivers first - Amazon with my HG Sandrock (apparently by Wednesday,) or amiami with my Gundam The End & 00 Raiser.
@Geof7609 your Q looks great! I have one on order at HLJ, when I decided to go with HG kits it was one of the first ones I picked up. I always thought it was such a weird design, but also figured the color scheme would look good on my "purple" shelf (purple, pink and in between).
Awww yeah..... After a repetitive build of the same 6 funnels again and again, finally I finished my RG Nu Gundam. This is quite an awesome RG kit, with some awesome articulation, a solid build and nice detailing for a 1/144 scale kit. I pay MYR 160 (around USD 38) for this kit, and I'll say it's worth that price tag. The way the shield is mounted on the arm is a bit unreliable however, on my own copy of this kit that is. One thing through, this kit is quite top-heavy when all of the 6 fin funnels are mounted on the MS; So an action-base would be recommended if you want to display it without much hassle. Also, even for a 1/144 scale kit the RG Nu Gundam is quite tall (especially after all of the fin funnels are been mounted on the MS); The RG Nu Gundam is almost as tall as Siege Starscream.
Amazing kit, awesome work. The fact it can STAND with the Funnels attached is incredible! - Finished the front skirts today. Since they'll remain mostly unseen, I didn't stress detailing the claws of the sub arms. Also considering this is it for them, no movement of any kind, they just disappear into the undercarriage but enough detail is there. One thing I wanted to do on them was restore the panel gap between the two halves that make the main skirt body. I didn't realize it at first but t's one of those deliberate seams that makes a panel line, but I fused and sanded it away. so I made my first mostly successful attempt at using my panel scriber! Lined up a strip of label maker tape and just worked my way around slowly, and finished it with a line of Tamiya cement to melt away any gouges or scratch marks. Let dry a couple hours and detailed with a Gundammarker. And the so far for now. I set the back mounted propellant tanks in place , the body acts as a parts holder for them so I can finish painting their ends. I also put some extra res into those raised circles in the shoulder area, it will look interesting with the armor over the outside.
Fuckin' hell. I need RG Nu, but I don't wanna get the lesser box. Gotta wait until December to get the one with effect parts n it.
Yeah, it's quite an awesome kit and I didn't regret paying the amount that I do. Paying something like USD 38 may seems like a bit much for a 1/144 scale kit, but for me the awesome look of the finished kit, good articulation, solid build, cool accessories, and the engineering packed with the kit itself makes the RG Nu Gundam worth the USD 38 I pay for it. The P-Bandai RG Nu Gundam expansion release may seems awesome, but I'm not sure if I want to pay inflated P-bandai prices for it. Maybe I'll just buy the Figure-Rise Jet blast effect parts kit by itself later on since that's the cheaper option for me, at least.
There's supposed to be a P-Bandai Double Fin-Funnel expansion, but the "bonus" version with the base and the effects parts is wide-release.
