its not really a yes and no though, this is one of the first times (note, i am not saying this is absolutely the first time) a 3p has openly and directly competed with hasbro, and given the nature of how hasbro chose to do unicron, zeta would have been wiser to sit on their unicron a bit longer, especially since they teased theirs within like the first week of unicrons campaign

 

I've been away from this thread for a while. Are Hasbro taking action?

If all 3P crumbles then Hasbro will lose a lot of people. 3P is mainly what is keeping me interested in collecting and a lot of others are the same. I still get TT MP's when I like them, I buy Siege stuff for my kid, but I would walk away if all I had to look at is MPs of new Bumblebees and new Optimus Primes with a new character sprinkled in every couple of years. At that rate you might be able to complete the Ark Crew in about 50 years. With a OP V8 on the shelf.

 

I buy a lot less from third parties than Hasbro, but I have bought some of it. It’s good stuff, but if I were more of a third party fan I’d be very worried. If the lawyers are being set free, if the Zeta Unicron is being used as a justification for HasLab’s problem then it’s hard to believe it will stop at Zeta.

 

Luckily we have come to a point where we can get a MP representation of almost every season 1-3 character.

 

Thanks to 3P. My 50 year remark was if you had to wait on TT to make the Season 1 cast.

I would fucking love a new direct to digital movie including Unicron. Don’t care if it’s G1 or War For Cybertron continuity. That would be a dream. Could be a Comic too I guess.

Wonder if there’s already a deal in place between Dille/Friedman and Hasbro. Dille was on the panel at SDCC.

 

It's kinda surreal to see Hasbro actually make a move shortly after I speculated that Zeta might have pushed things just a bit too far this time. I had actually hoped that Zeta's scrubbing of their Facebook page might have been their own choice, but it is starting to look like that's not the case.

Edit: The movie that was taken down does seem to have actually used the name "Unicron" (well, technically it used "Unicorn"). That might actually have been the line that was crossed that got the DMCA takedown filed.

 

The more you think about it, that's the reason why extending the deadline may actually have been a mistake. Hasbro should have pushed that it was the zero hour and now or never rather than give people two extra months to really really think about it.

 

I'm now double-dipping on Unicron.

Specifically, Dille rewrote Friedman's script. They worked on a big chunk of my animated childhood...GI Joe, Transformers, Inhumanoids, Visionaries...

Many years ago, I actually wrote Friedman a fanboy letter thanking him for his work on Bionic Six, my favorite 80s toon by far.
