Sorry but you’re wrong on this one. Voyager, leader, basic, scout, legend, deluxe, etc… are literally size classes.
Each line had a different meaning of what the size would represent, either the bot mode or the alt mode. The current lines, siege and studio series, are using alt mode as the basis of what class the figure falls in. That’s why SS ROTF Megatron and DOTM Megatron are the same height in bot mode but sold in different size classes.

Size class isn’t height class. Size encompasses height, weight, build and other factors

Maybe they're raising prices because not as many children are buying toys? Just a thought.

This has probably already been said, but I think you're supposed to transform the trailer for train mode by folding it open so it's twice as long. That would explain the second set of treads and wheels underneath. It would also lower the height so it doesn't rise up over the top of Astrotrain's locomotive. This would allow it to resemble two train cars rather than one, which I personally would dig.

I wont defend the price. I wont defend the size. What's the point? I look at it, I like it, I am going to buy it for 50 dollars. That's my choice as a consumer. Anyone who feels it's not worth their money is free to do so, but trying to convince each other that this is somehow unfair is ridiculous. Hasbro are not our buddies. They are a corporation looking to make money off of us. That's really all there is to it.
Parts count and reusability of the mold have to figure into this, as well, surely. There is, what, one repaint they could do with Astrotrain? Maybe 2 if they also repaint him in toy accurate colors? I have to imagine that factors into their planning. I bet you dollars to donuts that TR Prime sold better than TR Octane and Megs better than Blitzwing.

Ya know kudos to this thread and the fandom for just baffling me. We got three previous leaders in Siege. We knew exactly what astrotrain was going to be. We saw him two months ago at SDCC standing near other figures and yet we finally get in hand images and people are like “woah woah woah! This is voyager height? What the fuck man?!”

    It’s utterly amazing

A lot of Siege figures are shorter but have the same weight:

But I still believe that Hasbro is getting over with the Leader class Shockwave conspiracy.

The size shouldn't be a surprise, should it? I'm actually enjoying how the concept of what makes a Leader Class Transformer has become quite fluid. This new emphasis on smaller robots with additional parts is great fun and ties in directly with the play pattern of the Siege toy line.

Could they have used the extra gear to instead engineer a larger and more complex figure? Probably. But they didn't because that's not what Siege Leader figures are about.

I'm getting more play value out of this price point than I have in years.

That is true, but compared to Ultra Magnus, this Astrotrain feels like lesser value per dollar.

Yes, I am aware he's got the triple changer aspect going on, but so does Apeface who will retail cheaper than Astrotrain. ( and from my estimation; his robot mode might have the same size )

So yeah, I think Astrotrain looks good, but he's just not as good value for the price as figures like Magnus and Jetfire are.

There was at least one episode where Astrotrain was at least a head taller than Megatron. But what bothers me that we are getting charged for a leader class toy and getting a voyager. I at least wanted him to be as tall as the Now dated “ultra class” scale as the decepticons could use some big bots. I’m still going to get him because he is a fun toy tho I won’t be using the extra cargo. I don’t have room on my shelf for that.

Besides, he's a train. The important thing is that, to quote Deluxe Baldwin: "he's long and strong."
And gentlebots; he appears to be both of those things.

God if the Internet was a big as it was when these were released

    ED6526DF-A81A-427B-9E0F-D52F4A0FB71B.jpeg

The outcry of being forced to pay $10 for a $5 figure. I mean come on! It’s only a 3.75 figure! I shouldn’t have to pay more if I’m choosing to ignore the extra stuff that comes with!

    Insert sarcasm

You're either in or you're out. I'm in because guess what, if Siege Magnus, Shockwave, Galaxy Prime and Astrotrain shelf warmed because fans were "protesting" the price/size of the figures it wouldn't matter. Hasbro would just kill the leader-class figure at that point. They'll kill any price point that is unprofitable. They're not gonna get on their hands and knees and beg the fans for forgiveness.

Now, if you feel you're getting swindled by Hasbro-- that's your prerogative. I believe stuff is just more expensive and the dollar of the average worker doesn't really go that far.

Why would you think it would be bigger? We know already that Siege's scale is based on the Sunbow scale chart, and many of us told the rest this months ago.

And "size classes" are an exclusively colloquial term. The fans came up with the term. Hasbro uses "price point" to describe them. And they're the ones that decide what is what within Transformers. Just because you went along with an inaccurate term doesn't mean you get to tell posters who are using the correct terms "wrong" on that topic.

I expected he'd be the same height as Soundwave/Shockwave, etc. Sucks, but there it is. He's not. He is shorter. It's like, I'm TRYING to get used to this whole thing (not really, I've barely bought any Siege stuff), and was looking forward to Astrotrain. And then he's a head SHORTER than what I already consider too small for the "medium sized" figures.

And that scale chart we're thinking Hasbro's trying to follow? He's shorter than Megs and Op, sure. But he's also taller than all the other voyager figures. He's over a head up from that second line, with Screamer under it, and Soundwave splitting it midway. And the same height as Shockwave. For simplicity sake, it looks like they made all of those the same height in the toyline. Cool. So why couldn't they do that with Astrotrain? And then they want me to pay $50 for it, plus a bunch of panel crap that likely cost them pennies, which I'll be throwing in the parts bin anyway?

Yup. This IS the direction Hasbro has been going. They don't have to follow anything and can make them however they want. Smaller is no surprise. But then they make it SMALLER AGAIN. Maybe if he was this small in the voyager box with no useless extras, it might not piss so many off (I'd still hate it). But, I see why people are bothered by it.

Oh--and Blitzwing on that chart? Same height as Op and Megs. Will we get him to be their height in the toyline? Probably not.

Is there a side-by-side comparison with Titans Return Astrotrain?
