I think it's more the fact G1 OGs are pushing 50 and losing interest/filled holes with 3P. OG BW fans are the target demographic for HasTak to suck up that disposable income from the millenials who grew up with the show/toys.

You make a good point, but the Star Wars merchandise doesn’t seem to be slowing down so the money is still there.

Hasbro/Takara still haven’t released a Galvatron, Devastator or finish the Dinobots. Those are popular characters in the lore and it took 3rd party years to get something out. I think G1 Masterpiece fans are not a priority because the dollars might not be there.

Bandai went after KO companies, which are different than 3rd party (IP theft). IP theft is a whole different ballgame.

I'd expect MP Galvatron as next big$$ release (after a few dozen MP-44 repaints, of course).

I agree with all of this. I don’t think there will be a legal/IP crackdown. If Hasbro wants to damage 3P it will be by pressuring etailers.

I think Hasbro wanted to make the biggest transformer ever, but needed to make sure the math worked before it was put into production. I can’t think of a better character to choose for this than Unicron. They put 18 months of work in this, an investment that may be immaterial to the Hasbro corporation but not to the Transformers brand and project leaders. It would be hard to see the execs being convinced to try a Transformers crowdfunding project again.

I still have hope that it gets funded. It’s big, it’s beautiful, it looks like a lot of fun. It’s not just another Transformer on the shelf. It’s an event and a piece of history. I can only imagine the awe and sheer joy (and potential soreness) I will have taking this juggernaut out of the box.

Chinese courts. IP theft is a major problem US companies have in China.

Received a response from Pulse. Unfortunately it looks like Hasbro is keeping their cards close to the vest. Really seems like they recognize this is a dead time period, and if there is more to this campaign, it will likely only be rolled out with a few weeks to go. They won’t even formally confirm Unicron for NYCC (although, the way it’s written, seems like there could be an announcement forthcoming). Painful for all of us who are thinking about this daily, for sure.

    Thank you for your email.

Hasbro will have a presence at NYCC, including several panels about our upcoming products. Your best resource for the dates and times would be the schedule at https://www.newyorkcomiccon.com.

We have not formally announced HasLab's presence or whether Unicron will be on display. Please continue to check Transformers: War For Cybertron Unicron – Hasbro Pulse for the most up-to-date information and updates on the project.

    Thanks for being a fan!
    Warm Regards,

    Hasbro Pulse

Very different franchise models though. The SW universe has been consistent for 40 years in terms of the look. Vehicles from the 70's still scale and fit with vehicles from today (though the new vehicles are smaller, like the latest 2 releases of the Falcon). So the toys from my youth are as relevant and connected as the toys from my kids childhood to, presumably, what the toys will be like for their kids childhoods. Transformers have changed, evolved, been redesigned several times. We have purists from each of the eras. From a play-compatibility G1 stands apart from Beast Wars, as an example. Each generation of fans have their own versions to get attached to. War for Cybertron seems to be trying to bring generations together a bit with the new series and toys.

I don't think it looks like crap, but it's ...just a figure..if that makes sense. If I ever wanted a Unicron, I want it big/centerpiece. Hasbro's planet mode is incredibly superior.

October 6th. And, I don't know, this is the first crowdfund I've followed closely.

I understand all of your points. I am just saying that there is that there is enough disposable income out there and that the market for higher-end G1 Transformers might be weaker than we realize and that the majority of the fandom is satisfied with Hasbro CHUG toys.

Haslab's has very little history. The sail barge was first and greatly exceeded its goal in the allotted time. Cookie Monster was second and drastically fell short of its minimum goal. It was left to fail. Unicron was over 50% backed when the original date was coming up. Hasbro decided to extend the deadline. Since then there has been little traction. No one can say if it will or won't be extended again.

I like this figure but IMO it is not worth $600 + dollars. Haslab, throw in a $150 coupon for transformers or a free siege omega and I WILL BUY (you can even keep the gummy galvatron figure).

Little traction hey? Looks as though Haslab overestimated Unicron’s gravitational pull. :D
