That's definitely the best theory I've heard of them being two parts. I'd bet you have it exactly right. I wonder if TT just added 2 more tabs, if that would have solved everything?

Do not use rubbing alcohol, or nail polish remover ! Instead , go to your automotive store like a pep boys or advanced auto and get the stuff for bumper sticker remover . It’ll preserve your finish , an not dull the paint .

Your theory is a lot kinder and optimistic than mine lol.

I genuinely believe that the two piece design was implemented because designers caught the flaw too late in the process, and having a failing joint that essentially becomes a friction joint is a much more acceptable “fail safe” than having a lower joint that wouldn’t bend (essentially this is what happens if the peg won’t fit in the channel and the lower ratchet is one piece or glued).

And most people didn’t and probably still don’t realize when their knees fail because it still is able to bend and has enough friction to hold a pose. It’s much less noticeable than a lower knee that won’t bend lol

Thanks for this advice! After watching the fix tutorial (and now having a better understanding of why the piece is failing) I think you're right... waiting too long will only cause the corners of that housing piece to get chewed up more, and the fix might not be as effective. So I think it's worth doing after all. I'm glad all it involves is disassembling and gluing; I hate doing fixes that involve dremmeling and carving away bits. This one seems pretty doable overall.

    Thanks!

TT needs to visit and read this forum and listen to the many great advices and feedback given. I wonder if TT even at the very least lurk here?

    Get ur acts together TT.

They sometimes skim through the boards, they are aware of us. Some of the Japanese blogs actually linked back to the fix threads here. That, plus some of the comments from fans on social media in Japan and Amazon Japan reviews of MP-44...are loud enough I'm sure to reach Takara.

I'm pretty sure they're aware but I doubt they'll publicly address it. Maybe they'll post ways to prevent breakage on their Twitter page, who knows.

Very thankful for those who've posted the issues they had and those who took the time to fix them and post their findings here. I do unfortunately think that we will continue to get expensive Transformers with qc flaws/issues/errors... mistakes... and that prices will not come down. So while I'm with all of you knowing that you shouldn't have to do a DIY fix, I'm also for being proactive and trying to come up with ways to fix it.

I'll be patient a bit longer. Kinda disheartening looking at their FAQ section and seeing so many questions with account blockage or PayPal dispute listed. This is the first (and last) time that I've had issue with them.

Small advantage for those who buy third-party... We're already accustomed to performing out of the box repairs. :D

MP-44 is giving me MP-09 Deja Vu. That thing was also way too expensive, flawed with bad knees and paint chipping.

At least this one has better hands. :)

and I bet most of those complaints didn't include backpack to big and broken sculpt due to articulation. Japanese fans have no issues getting their dislikes known.

Ok so I watched the knee repair video and can can sorta assume that the knee breakage is an inevitability due to how it is designed. That plastic that's supposed to secure the ratchet piece is indeed too thin. Now I'm worried that if I wait until the plastic stresses before I repair it, I may run into the problem with gluing it together out of spec. Do you suppose it may be wise to just secure this piece right out of the box?

Well my girlfriend is away so I decided I was going to play. I pulled MP-44 out of his GF imposed Christmas exile to see if I got a winner or a dud. Well he is virtually flawless; no paint flaws I can see, his legs work as they should and the paint on the all of the accessories is good. Right up to the point where I transform his left arm.... AND FIND A RIGHT HAND IN HIS LEFT ARM..... MY FIGURE HAS TWO F*CKIN RIGHT HANDS!!!!!! I have not read every page on the thread but the search came up with nothing so I appear to be the first one with two right hands. Guess his left hand will always be his energon axe as I am not going to play the replacement lottery. So if anyone gets two left hands I have a available right hand to swap with ya. God I am pissed off right now.
