BBTS, Baba, TF-Direct should have it soon. Same with Captured Prey.

It sold out on Taobao within minutes (more like seconds actually) yesterday shortly after dalianjj made the announcement. From what I heard quite a few Chinese customers were very upset.

    $179.99 from NA retailers.

I don't have an answer to your question, but as it's been alluded to, FT and other 3P companies don't have their own factories. Unlike other companies that can get pre-orders and make their toys based on the number of pre-orders, they have to jockey for factory time. My guess is that they have to look at what they have as an operating budget, make a business decision as to when and how much time they can "buy" from the factory and then show that there's incoming money backing up the factory time, with the understanding that they'll put $$ down at the time of factory start, and the rest when the orders begin to ship.

As a result, my guess is that "preorders" are limited because they're basically telling each e-tailer "you can sell this many because this is how much time we could reserve with a factory". Once all the preorders are full, they can wave the pending invoices at the factory and say "Your money will be here when the work is done."

Or I could be 100% wrong. Again, just a total guess.

Guess I'll wait for a version 3, which'll hopefully have darker greys and an even bluer, less saturated purple. And maybe last 2 or 3 mins before selling out...

That reply makes sense. Thank you!

I wasn't exactly sure how these third parties operate as I'm only familiar with Hasbro. I had almost all of the G1 toys in the 80s but this hobby today looks like it might be too depressing/frustrating. :lol

TBH it's a brilliant release plan, if I think it is what I think it is. Stall for time for other projects while releasing short, low financial commitment runs of what fans wanted. Again, this is just speculation. But dam, I missed out.

Only if you let it be. I would say most every character has a relatively affordable representation still available to this day. Just depends on your personal sensibilities. For example last I checked DX9 Tyrant seem to be readily available at least on ebay and a lot of people really enjoy that figure.

Yeah, it can be. The sweet spot for 3P MPs was about 2 years ago, when everything was flying around everywhere. That said, there are a few alternatives to FT Sovereign if you're willing to compromise. There's always DX9 Tyrant, which is also a fine figure. Or you could play the waiting game and pray that XTB finally pulls Abbadon from the ether. Finally, Open & Play released a "budget" MP style Galvatron a while back - Big Cannon.

Fanstoys must hate money, clearly demand is there, why not accept more orders and produce more?

What if it was solicited to retailers and this is how many orders they put in? They might've noticed the hand-wringing over the demise of eBay flash sales and adjusted downward.

Because there's so many ways they can make money? Like by releasing new products?

They have the greatest problem possible. Either way their stuff sells.

As much as we all hate the sales tactic - it's brilliant. Why would you want to be stuck with excess stock. Making low numbers here and there guarantees high sales (The whole supply and demand platform). I have not doubt we;ll see this and Quietus released in these colors again, may be just a year or 2 down the line.

Got one reserved at TFSource as I have some source points to burn. However, I'm waiting to see what TFSExpress does with this guy as I have a few other bots sitting in my cart. Would be nice to save a few bucks if possible. Anyone want a DX9 tyrant?

Why do I feel that this is opening a very dangerous door into other older "reissues" such as possibly..who knows...remaking all the dinobots into toon colors without the gold chrome but pastel-ly yellow and lighter greys...sigh...i hope not.

I disagree. FT's Sovereign has always been and always will be one of their most popular molds ever. They could've reissued it exactly as it was before with the color at a full/regular run, and Sovereign would still sell out in very little time. There is nothing brilliant with this tactic as the mold sells itself. There's no way FT would be "stuck with excess stock" with this one in a regular run. It's just too good of a design not to.

The only thing FT is doing is creating a slightly different paint job to get those who missed out excited and to grab those who have the earlier version to have an excuse to buy it. It's a kind of a cheap shot, and they've done it with FT-10X, FT-29T, and now they're doing it with FT-16.

FT-16 is a good mold. I'm happy it's being reissued. I just don't like the tactics used. They really don't need to.

I still think once the pre-orders get filled all of these sellers will have him in stock, for how long I have no idea. Or, it will be like after Phoenix X was sold out that the regular version will become available. I don't know, I do understand that they don't want stock sitting on the shelves, but I think this is too far in the other direction where people have to scratch and claw or be on at just the right time to know that something has been released. I don't have the answers.

    mmmmmmmmmm, fish grease...
