while fiddling with Siege Ironhide, I discovered a mod to make him taller. This requires some plastic trimming, but no parts removal. It adds a couple of steps to the transformation sequence, but nothing too difficult. This is not a knock to anyone’s add on kit. I bought that kit myself for the panel fillers to use on a custom project I’m working on. So, you have your factory height Seige Ironhide. Lay him down like so: Notice the pins in the hips. You’re going to rotate that whole joint so that the large side of the pin faces forward. You’ll also need to rotate the lower leg back to forward facing, you should have this now: See the difference? Now, go ahead and do the same to the other leg. Now, if you try to stand ol’ Ironhide right now, this is what you’ll get: This is where the plastic trimming comes into play. There are two factory mold lines that you want to trim to. Stand him on his head, spread his legs apart. See the yellow arrows? Those are the mold lines I’m talking about. And here’s what it looks like once trimmed (left side untouched for comparison to the right) Do a little at a time. Keep checking in between cuts. You’ll know you got it right when you can get his leg to do this: (again, left side untouched for comparison to the right) Simply repeat the process to the other leg, and you’re done. No parts forming at all Just remember to reverse the extra transformation steps going back into alt mode. The best part? If you don’t like the mod after doing it...simply put the legs back as they were. Thanks for looking! ENJOY!!
awesome find! i never noticed his hips were oriented like that, its a bit strange. ill probably do this later myself. It irritates me that on any other figure a mod like this would have been just a simple parts swap, but because the damn crotch is glued together rather than having been molded as a single open back piece or a screw, cutting is required.
It kind of makes the pelvis look a bit elongated, but honestly, it's barely noticable. I really do like this mod, and kudos on making it so simple while maintaining the integrity of the figure as a whole!
Just did it on mine. Proportions are so much better now. Thanx! I love the figure but it always bugged me how he looked more stocky than tall. And sweet thing is we'll be able to do it with Ratchet as well.
Just a heads up. 360 the waist to go with this mod and you'll keep the original front facing hips and takes away the slight elongated pelvis look. The front end works well as his new butt. Also, the folding flaps are now on the inside of the leg which gives him a cleaner and solid lower leg (at the expense of losing ankle tilt however since the joint would be facing the wrong way).
Thanks for the mod. Post a photo of him alongside a Siege's Deluxe or Voyager without editing the photo.
This is very cool! I will make sure to do it on my ratchet to make it look more different than ironhide.
Actually, it’s not even a painted post-it. I just looked up “cracked glass cartoon” and found a decent picture on google. After some color adjusting in Word, I printed a few sizes to make sure I found the right scale. I trimmed the paper and taped it in, just in case I find something better or change my mind later. The effect is, as you saw, quite nice. I did something similar with Siege Soundwave, and will likely do the same with Siege Ratchet if I ever get him.
