So every Transformer should just be a common mid size sedan?

This entire thread for the past day or two can be surmised as TFW2005: Civil War

If you actually think that's what I've been saying this whole time, then you're completely missed my point.

Oh, please, that's been going on since the movies first came out. It's only gotten worse in time because people seem to think that bayformers is the end all, be all, of Transformers.

What is the purpose of transformation? To be a disguise.

Being the loudest possible looking thing imaginable is not a disguise, especially when in- universe they supposedly have Energon detectors anyway so anything that sticks out would be a point of investigation.

If I remember correctly, Bluestreak never shuts the fuck up. Just goes on and on. So they’re referencing the idiom “To talk a blue streak”

EDIT: Also, Mirage is so named because he turns invisible and Wheeljack sounds like a tool you’d find in an auto-garage and Wheeljack is a scientist and engineer. So the vehicle mode of some of them is less fitting than others; Ironhide being a big dual cab Ute in TF07? Good change.

AMEN! And they fail to remember or even acknowledge that the predecessors even existed, like the Diaclone line which you and others have spoken of repeatedly. . .

Jazz should've been a RUF RT12 instead of a Pontiac Solstice in the first Bayformers film tbh.

Also, Hound is a scout who tracks things hence why he's called Hound.

Totally agreed from a creative perspective. Alas, it’s their strongest product placement opportunity so it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

The thing with the films that always irked me is that....you would never see that many supercars in one place. So the transformers in these films always stuck out like a sore thumb when they were supposed to be Robots in disguise.

It confuses me how Transformers gets hate for their deal with GM and Mercedes, but no one bats an eye when the MCU shoves Audis in your face all the time...

And how exactly does the MCU shove Audis in the faces of the audience? The main focus of the MCU is the superheroes so beyond the infamous La Cucaracha van from Ant Man, who cares what cars they are? It's a problem in Transformers because the cars ARE in a way the characters and if they all look more or less similar, even super car profiles can become non exciting if that's the ONLY option on offer for most of the cast.

Whenever they include cars in the MCU it's mostly Audis. I just watched Homecoming and Far From Home, and there where dozens of shots that focused on the Audis. This goes for many other MCU movies as well.

There has not been that many supercars in the TF movies (nor did this have anything to do with what i said). Only 3 Autobots (Drift, Mirage and Hot Rod) and 2 others (Stinger and Lockdown) have been supercars.

My point was: If Marvel gets away with this, why cant Transformers?

...NotRamjet97 is that you? Because if you aren't, then you're only the second person I know of who has given this much of a shit about the MCU's choice of car props.

So when a car is very expensive they won't actually do stunts with that vehicle... But that also goes for things like Mustangs and Camaros, not necessarily billionaire-mobiles. It would just be foolish to put $26,000+ at risk regularly over the course of a production. So what will happen a lot is they'll actually have the car for safe, driving down the street/parked in frame shots, and then build a facade of the supercar to put over a more reasonable stunt car's body. It's both a cost/safety thing, and it's how you'll see them wreck a vintage Lambo in Wolf of Wall Street. I'm 100% sure this was done for Transformers as well.

So the reason the cars don't really come off as characters in the Michael Bay films isn't because it's cost prohibitive but because that would entail a whole lot of coordination and pre-production considerations, and Michael Bay's production style is, famously, a lot more run and gun "What feels right on the day of shooting" than that. Which is also why Autobots and humans talking to each other got progressively less convincing over time. Dark of the Moon is probably the best in both regards with things like Sam and Bumblebee in the garage and the highway chase, but it's still a net-downward trend, with entire dialogue sequences in TLK being comprised of total non-sequiturs.

Run and gun is a totally valid production style, by the way, just probably not the best for this material. They've always been incredible about getting reference material and light source data, however, because obviously the Transformers themselves are usually very well integrated into the shot. Except for AoE where robots are floating around, regularly have shadows in the wrong directions, and shift into cubes that are shockingly not integrated at all. Seriously, those cubes are Scorpion King quality. I don't understand how this happened when they were doing better work with this with the same team back in 2007. The series' best (DotM) and worst (AoE) in this regard even had the same cinematographer.

You're confusing me with someone else.

I wouldn't give a damn about the MCUs choice of cars if the Transformers movies werent shit on for their choices.

But why the MCU? It's always the MCU that gets compared, instead of something actually based around cars like Fast and Furious?

I mean, Fast and Furious literally used a Lamborghini as a joke specifically to get it destroyed at the end of Fate of the Furious because it was such a useless car for that sequence in frozen somewhere or other in Russia, or in Fast 7 made a point of driving a hypercar across buildings before smashing it to pieces on the ground. In comparison, Transformers couldn't lay a goddamn scratch on that ugly ass piece of shit Hot Rod turned into. What's the point of having eternally warring robots turn into cars if they can't subsequently fight as the cars? The first three films got that right, at least!
