If you actually enjoy the transformation which is highly questionable, IMO, by watching that video.

Personally, Zeta's Unicron is the perfect size for me, if it was the same height as Haslab's (or anywhere near that height), I would pass on it for the same reason I'm passing on the Haslab Unicron.

About size: Zeta needs to make money for the current mode, they also need to follow the Dec schedule. If it sells well, they might release a larger version with corrections and more details later. And THAT will be the ultimate version. Well if they don't, there are a handful 3P companies from China capable of doing that. Weijiang, Hei Ping Guo, FT, ...

After some digging, it seems Hei Ping Guo belongs to/is Weijiang.

The head will have electronics, according to the video, so I'm guessing that's what will happen when it's all said and done.

On the argument of entitlement VS "who are you?" "the customers!" I see both sides. Here's the thing, you can't have it both ways. We've made the same arguments for years when it comes to Hasbro and their products, 3rd party should not be immune. I like to be fair, this is one of those situations where "fair" is people complaining and it sounds like entitlement.

I'm not backing HasLab's monstrosity. I'm a 3rd party fan and I will be buying Zeta's Unicron, but I'm not going to give anyone a pass when it's clear something isn't perfect. That said, I'll certainly give them more of a pass when they're a 3rd party and basically a garage/backyard operation renting out factory production time versus a pair of billion-dollar companies, who actually own the factories, making a monstrosity that's biggest selling point is literally its size. (Both weight and height!)

At $210 USD before shipping, that's nothing to sneer at, cost-wise. It doesn't have to be "perfect" per se, but it also kind of grinds gears that it's so, so close yet still so far in some ways. I can see both sides of the argument. Me, personally, I'm not all that hard-pressed to whine and complain about the "inaccuracies" of Zeta's planet mode, but considering how the robot mode aims for near perfection in a lot of ways, it just might not sit right with some about the planet mode and its layout.

At $575.00 before shipping and taxes, I can't really see anything in the way of defending that figure, I'll argue it until the cows come home, really. So, yeah, it's sportin' a film-accurate planet mode and has a size and scale befitting such a creature/character, but it also has a rod semi-permanently shoved up its @$$ (and yeah, it basically does) but it sacrifices so much in terms of transformation and robot mode and won't light up, weighs 19 pounds (and I hear the stand is another 10?!) and it's THREE FRIGGIN FEET WIDE IN ALT MODE. No one really has anywhere to display such a thing, and if they do, they won't have much room for anything else and it's certainly not the greatest conversation piece.

    "What is that?"
    Oh, that's Unicron.
    "Huh?"
    *tells the tale*
"So, let me get this straight... It's a 20-pound ball of plastic with an action figure folded in half inside of it, an action figure of Orson Welles...sorta, based on a role he'd most likely be embarrassed to admit he played and it's part of your collection?"
    Right.
    "Huh."
It was a real steal at $575.00!
    *gets up*
    Ight.jpg

The only reason people are defending it is that it's supposedly a "grail" and Hasbro's milking it for all it's worth. They're too close to the situation and can't rationalize it...at all. If they did, they'd see that this is actually a waste of resources, money, and time.

Zeta? We've all spent more on a whole lot less and it gives "independent contractors" business, so I'll rationalize Core Star away all day. *shrugs* It's not only more logical, but it's also less of a waste, it's more affordable, and actually does more. Literally.

I've backed Haslab's Unicron, and have been saving up for it. Though, I'll be backing this up as well, as funds permit. I would still like to be able to handle a figure without much worrying that I'll be breaking it and cost me a whole lot of money. LOL :)

If the stand was transparent acrylic, then that'd be ok. Or have a slight tint to it. Painted plastic won't look good at all.

The Hasbro version sits on a slim arm so it gives it a better impression that it's floating.

A couple screengrabs from sun of the empire’s video, where they had a painted version.

I think the titanmater crap is just the youtuber, I don't really blame Zeta for his idiocy.

As for the legs I have no proof but I suspect they failed to untab all the panels which made them harder to move, though would speak well of how solid the sphere will hold up if I'm right.

It isn't a coincidence, but I don't think "intentional" is quite right. I feel like the better description is they were forced to reveal now. There are people who would buy the HasLab one if that was the only option available, but would go with Zeta instead if they knew about it. However if Zeta waited to reveal those people would have committed $600+ to HasLab and many would feel priced in to it.

HasLab's is 27 inches isn't it? Twice Zeta's height would be almost 38 inches. I can't call more than 10 inches difference "almost".

Personally extended articulation is one of the first things I would sacrifice, but if it isn't costing something elsewhere I see no reason to not have it, whether I use it or not. Excluding it just because they don't recommend using it is not a good thing.

I'm currently in on both, but as time goes on I'm less and less inclined to keep the Hasbro order in place. I just struggle with the idea of paying $600 to display it in planet mode. $100 - 200 for a planet I would do without a doubt, but the transformation is worthless and the bot mode's only win is size and the forearm spikes. I've already paid the first $100 on my order at TCP for the Hasbro one, but I'm not confident I will still keep it with another month to think about it. The biggest argument in favor of keeping that order is if it was going to double in price to sell later like the sail barge, but that seems less likely now.

When Hasbro's comes out doesn't matter. It is only available to order now. That means they are competing directly.
