I suspect there will need to be some type of security controls put in place to prevent or minimize such things. I know copy protection stuff gets hacked all the time...but I’d be amazed if it isn’t made part of the equation somehow. Maybe you’d have to pull the printing files from their server each time you wish to produce one and are limited in how many or how often you can do so. It will be interesting.
Missed the first run due to a family emergency and didn't want to pay aftermarket prices!!! So glad this second run came out!!! SOC GX-71 Reissue! by ricemaster76, on Flickr
I think there will be ways to handle this. When it does become a reality, it will be part of a change in the whole marketplace including the way we normally purchase and value things so I don’t think we can imagine it within our current idea of the market.
Yeah but that’s a long way off isn’t it? You’d need paint finishes and what not. Toy technology is advancing at an insane pace. I can’t imagine printing something like an MP-44 and then assembling it. I think we’re going in that direction but there are some major advancements that need to happen.
Definitely. I personally won’t bother buying a 3D printer until we see a lot more advancements but as you say, things change fast.
it's hard to imagine anything internet based being "safe", heck i'm shocked that toys haven't hit the levels of internet scalpers that shoes and tickets go through
Actually there was one that very nearly defeated Voltron. Season 1 Episode 31 a robeast that looks a little bit like shockwave from transformers heavily targets the blue lion. Voltron starts losing all power as the blue lion starts slipping off the black lions leg in combined mode and Voltron and the robeast stab each other in the chest. Braking the robeast sword hand off Voltron manages to pull away to finish the robeast off, and the blue lion loses all power slips off Voltron and crashes. After the crash lotor targets the blue lion and the rest of the lions separate to try to defend it and are nearly defeated only to be saved by the castle opening up on lotors forces. power loss at 18:47
Is that the same one where the Robeast kicked Voltron's ass and Voltron wasn't able to return the favor until the next episode?
Yes. Absolutely yes. Pre-made is great, but if it can be made at home and assembled, as well as repaired by reprinting a part...oh, yes.
Hi, Anyone know which paint matches the silver on the green lion ? Mine has a few dark spots... thought I might try using rubbing alcohol to clean it, or silver sharpie to cover it but I'm afraid might damage the paint further. Also the chrome on one of the feet isn't as "polish" compared to the rest of the other lions. Just wondering if anyone has similar issue ? This is the 2nd production run from BBTS. Thanks.
Mine has similar dull spots in the chrome as well as several scratches on the chest plate. I can't help you with the paint, as I'm currently trying to secure replacements from BBTS. You're the sixth or seventh person I've seen post in this thread about qc issues. Seems like the quality control on this second run isn't up to snuff with the first release; I don't remember reading about any of these issues with it.
Sorry to hear about the issues on your figure. I was going over BBTS return policy doesn't seem like they offer replacement for cosmetic defects. What do i know I hardly purchase toys/action figures but BBTS was the only retailer I was able to secure an order and I didn't want to miss out on this figure. We may be nitpicking but this is an expensive item.
Yeah, when you're talking about an item in this price range, it's completely justified to expect a certain level of quality control. Honestly, before I received the figure, the only concern I had was that it might get damaged in shipping. It never even occurred to me that I'd be dealing with qc issues from the manufacturer.
I think that there's a lot of validity to both of these. It's certainly going to be interesting to see how ut pand out going forward. Fan-freaking-tastic post, man. I think about even q.c. issues with products like the SoC Voltron. Oh, it came missing a ratchet? Print this part and install it vs. sending the whole thing back or them having to send a whole replacement lion. --------- There's actually an add on part I've been wanting to print for SoC Golion for a bit and I think it may be time to just buy a printer and get to it.
No they defeat the robeast in this episode, but just barely and come very close to defeat themselves. The same robeast design is used in the very next episode though because it worked so well in this one. They still have a hard time with the robeast and king alfor gives them a message and they defeat the robeast by using the lion head attack for the first time damaging it and finish it off with blazing sword.
Ah man I vaguely remember now. Thanks! I need to grab some more ACT stands to replicate the attack. Would've been neat if the limb lions could fire their heads off spring-action missle style without compromising articulation/aesthetic(but I'm not complaining).
So after having to reluctantly cancel my original PO of GX-71 from BBTS a couple weeks ago, I was able to order one from TCP a couple days ago and (according to the Fed Ex tracking) I'll have him on Tuesday. I figured - spend a little more now or possibly a lot more later and regret it. To be honest, if there was no reissue I would have had no problem spending $399 on it in the aftermarket anyway.
I guess Kuma may have been the exception(?), he got a whole new black lion because of cosmetic defect. We’ll see if BBTS will follow suit with the other claims put in.
I appreciate the motivation and am actually looking at them now... I'm kind of torn between going small scale for the immediate projects I have in mind or buying ahead in case I want to expand later.
