@Jarrod @BrutiKing since you guys opened up and fixed the knees on MP-44, judging from what you've observed, is there any way to prevent breakage or fix the knees without taking apart the legs? Like seeping a bit of shock oil into the joints? Just trying to see if there are less invasive means of correcting the issue.

 

From what I understand, no. Not really. I have previously mentioned stress testing my fixed leg, and use over time (normal use like bending it all at once, not one click at a time) it eventually breaks. I think the glue is a worthwhile fix. It’s not like you’re taking a knife to the knee or anything.

 

Checked my copy at lunch and with the knee issue he is having I am still able to pose him like normal. TMAN's copy seems to have the same issue as well, but seems like he didn't notice it.

I do have to move the knee cover up and down and push the ratchets from behind to engage it. I'm wondering is it worth the fix? Is this fix very time consuming? Or is it just pop 4 screws off disassemble a few parts, slap some glue and wait 5-10 minutes then reassemble and I"m done in less than 15 minutes?

Anyone who has performed the fix can you account for your time and skill level while doing this procedure.

If anyone could explain that method as if you were trying to explain it to a 3 year old would be appreciated. I have -0 Customizing skills. I realize that number does not exist, that is how bad I am at that stuff.

 

SO I have not seen it yet on any online video review or of the over 1000 pages in this thread (I might have missed it). MP-44 jetpack does fit on Lambor MP-12+ at least. Since that is who loaned it to to him in "More Than Meets the Eye" Part 3" Now you can reenact some jet judu!

If you already had no ratchet, shaving won't help. Yet. You've got to repair the joint housing first.

This is what you're looking for. If you have any damage to this wall, it's not gonna hold. See that stressing/mashing of the plastic just passed the notch? That's the damage. That's it. Very little damage, but that's all it takes.


Because the little blue ratchet part (the one that slides into the thigh. The one that all this depends one, that little bastard), can no longer lock into place. Instead, that blue part now turns, instead of remaining immobile and letting the ratchet click.

Here is what it should look undamaged (Green circle).



Use BrutiKing's method and try glueing those parts together first, then see if that part will properly slide into the thigh. While you're at, try lubing the ratchets as well.

It's really not so much how far you bend. The upper joints is unaffected, it's only the lower one you need to worry about. As long as you can confirm the tabs slide into the channels, you SHOULD be ok. BUT keep an eye on them! If it's already damaged you may get no ratcheting in the lower joint, or only a few clicks near the end...from what I've been reading.

Whoa, oku! How much did you heat, and how close did you hold the hairdryer? Mine never got near that soft at all to warp like that.

I used a pair of long tweezers to hold the single antenna, after removing it from the head.

Hmm...It looks like yours is already starting to go. How easy does your tab slide into the channel? To me, I'd say, if you can, open up that blue knee joint, and lube up the ratchets. Also, try gluing the blue tab part to the housing as BrutiKing suggests. You can most likely still recover that.

Not true at all! People have been using this trick for YEARS! And a number of us have already did so, on these exact same pieces with no damage. The antenna are much less malleable than most softer plastics I've run across, and take the heat much better. You just need to take some care and not rush it.

Might as well tell people to not bend Primes knees because they WILL break....

Well, I'd recommend against cutting the spring. It also depends on if your ratchet already failed, is just beginning to, or you want to try and prevent failure. But read more here (scroll all the way through):
