Frankly I\'ve always liked Livo\'s artistic style but I have to admit he really seems to have sharpened things up for the better compared to some of his previous works, and this story actually seems pretty interesting too. Can\'t wait to see how well Tyler pulls it off.

I am puzzled by the comparatively positive reactions to this. The writing is exactyl like Ruckley's and the art is exactly what we're used to from Livio. That is to say, the story is all talking, with characters established in broad strokes, and the art suffers from a poor command of perspective, as well as over-use of flare effects.

It's OK, though. Not terrible. I just think the rest of you are looking at it through rose-tinted specs because this time it's the Constructicons going on about the beauty of Cybertron instead of Bumblebee and Rubble.

From the outset, we're given a clear representation of characters in a situation. We're not dropped in with a proxy who's newly forged and acting as a target for an exposition dump compounded by a mystery going nowhere. It has some of the dialogue beats that feel common to the old Marvel books, characters talking and dropping the name of their audience.

Livio's work here seems to be in good form, and what people criticized the most is muted down. It's not so dark and full of shadows, you can clearly see who's talking, and their facial expressions are more clear. Sure he does a lot of his digital light and shadow manipulations.

    >When a guy from Vox makes a better story in five pages than the main continuity writer does in 10 issues.
How long ago was Iacon destroyed? Or did no one die? Because otherwise, isn't that a continuity issue? thinking3.png

I hope combiners aren\'t super weak and flimsy like in CW/TR/PotP ...  12 pages in, Megatronus walks in and rips his head off.

I said it in the "Ongoing #11 Preview" thread, but I feel like this is a social experiment to test how well these miniseries, Side Stories, and one shot books compare to the ongoing series. Gauge the audience's reaction in a way to decide the direction or future of the book in general..
There's some sort of creative freedom in this comic that they don't have in the ongoing comics. As if though Hasbro is dictating how long they want the writer to stay in the "Pre-Siege" period.

    I like so far.

Re:Livio's art improvement. The main thing that's missing from these pages for the better is, for me, the ridiculous overuse of dirt texture maps splattered across everything without much rhyme or reason. It's there but far more restrained/toned down. Overall, I like his art as he reminds me of Geoff Senior (just not as good) but this is definitely a step up.

I just hope he doesn't default into typical Livio.

The preview has interested me so far. The art looks good, and the Constructicons sounds alright so far. It’ll be interesting to see how this story arc tries to make this team stand out, and if this will be a nice secondary title for this new continuity.

I'm still on the fence with this "reboot".
The characters are all "wrong" the politics are wonky, and the pace is dog slow,,, and yet,,,

I want to see where this new direction goes, I'm curious. If they botch it, we can just have another relaunch, but I'll give them some time to run with the ball. They've already dropped some interesting potential storylines, but so far not much follow up. (And some foreshadowing that will be lame if it comes to pass)

So far my biggest dissapointment with Siege is that for all the hype of "Cybertron Forms" they hew too close to earth modes. I wanted to see the envelope pushed more. This is further frustrated by some of the artists practically tracing the instruction sheets.

Yes, finally I'd like to see some of these "teams" written as individuals, instead of a monolithic group. We did get some of this with G1 Aerialbots and Protectobots, and more recently TAAO's Combaticons, but I'd love to see the full vehn diagram of the Constructicon personalities explored.

Different theme to illustrate a different time/place?

Yeah, that's been my biggest letdown with Siege so far. They look far too much like earth vehicles. Or transform too much like their G1 selves. It's almost like Hasbro wanted to redo G1 and at the last minute couldn't get the rights for the various vehicle likenesses.

Whaaaaat? They had a backstory in the G1 cartoon.

    They were built on Earth.

    BUT

They were on Cybertron 4 million years ago and were turned evil by Megatron....

    BUT

They built Megatron over 9 million years ago...

    :lol

Still never understood why they needed a MacGiffin to make combiners...

This is gonna be rather off topic but, later on in the reboot as a whole I personally think it would be cool to see the Crusadeicons from the 2005 continuity interact with the reboot versions of themselves.

They were reformatted (“built”) on Earth to have Earth modes. Smokescreen and Grapple also had their Earth forms built on Earth on the Marvel comics and they had lived in Cybertron before the Ark left. I would assume something similar for the Constructicons in the cartoon.

Who says those seven or eight green and purple generic robots who made Megatron are the six Constructicons?

I wasn’t trying to make sense of it. Just making fun of their conflicted origin in the cartoon.

It’s not really that conflicted when you stop to think about it.
