The only thing that does not make sense here is your inability to grasp the concept that it is foolish for a company to lock its doors to paying consumers that are lined up outside its doors.

    Edit: Double-quoted.

No, I'm assuming that Hasbro would have stuck to what they said by "we just need 8000 minimum to make this guy." That dude was saying it was really at 6000/7000 when it was just barely 3500 all due to third party sellers who wouldn't be putting their orders in until the last day (assumed). That was bullshit then as recent events have shown.

Dude, there is no much tinfoil hats in this thread that rational, logical thinking is being thrown out the window just to appease someone's positive or negative view of this. It's insane.

Purely speculatively, I think that this kind of exposes HasLab for what it is though. Even going back to the Sail Barge.

Sesame Street isn't a core product line to Hasbro, and adult Sesame Street collectors, willing to drop hundreds of dollars, not a core constitency (in a sense). They were willing to let it fail because it was in a sense, a legitimate "kickstarter".

But Star Wars and Transformers are their bread and butter (along with Marvel Legends). Its how they pay their bills. Brand damage would naturally be a concern to them.

I think there was no way this, or the Sail Barge were ever not going to happen. I think they factored in the (A) before they even proposed the project(s) and chose projects they knew were going to get put into production, in full, even if it took a bit longer than the initial deadline.

So perhaps the best way to think about HasLab crowdfunding for their bread-and-butter lines is more along the lines of "An Online HasbroPulse Exclusive, that you have to pay for up front, well in advance of delivery".

From that angle, folks who are speculating about Unicron's relationship with future Titans may be on to something, just not in the way they mean. Without TRU, Titans have no major non-discount distribution channel in the US. Omega Supreme is online only in the US, and was in the works before TRU went under (judging by comments made). What if the future of Titans are "HasLab" Titans, which cost more (let's say $200-$250, which is what some top end Star Wars stuff used to cost at retail), but are also bit more "fleshed out" than what a retail release would see to hit a price point that wouldn't scare a distribution channel. And Hasbro knows it is going to make this Titan - it will be part of the line - but it is just going to handle order, production and delivery differently than it did retail titans.

I really, really, really think Commander class is the future of the top-end of the line at retail. It's $80 price is not too scary to customers and retailers to the point they should shelf warm. The box is only modestly bigger than a leader class box, and far smaller than the old Supreme Class box they used to stock. I really think Titans at retail anywhere, are probably done after Omega Supreme (like they are in the US). But an "obviously, we're going to make this" product as HasLab could represent an avenue to make them, and slightly better ones at that.

In short, of the two options you presented, it's definetly (B), but only because they already considered (A) before they even announced the entire project, and basically said "we're going to make Unicron, we know we can get at least 8000 sales on it (sales, not backers)... who cares how long it takes.

I fully expect, for example, if they somehow only got to like 7500, they produce those spare 500 and offered them to retailers as extra inventory to sell, or just sell it on Pulse after the fact as a limited item. Not because they're desperate for the money, but because they decided they're going to make this thing and make money off of it, the "honesty" of the crowdfunding regardless.

Seems about right. This was about to fail to logic and common sense so they extend it. Man, are they trying over time hard. BUT, even I, the absolute most ardent proponent against the existence of this because it set a a horrible precedent MUST concede that this extension is the right move and the first solid business decision I have seen from this company in 2 years...so...I dunno...kudos (?)

Stephen A. Smith would think that notion is blasphemous.

I wake up to this and it puts a big smile on my face. I’ll get my Unicron after all. Talk about a nice present for all the people who can get him.

I’m guessing Hasbro is thinking there’s too much money on the table to let the 8/31 deadline be what kills this. Adding another month should get the minimum (didn’t look like it was happening otherwise).

I’ve had my preorder in sine the beginning and I was pretty much writing this off as not happening without some exception at Hasbro. Guess it’s back to the “very likely” category.

You know..this is kinda annoying. I could have save the amount in two months easy..but no they make it a one month deadline and then extend it?

Annoying..but I'm still gonna try to get it

If you're going to go with that logic then why even bother making this a Pulse fundraiser? If they could have easily gotten together with etailers (it helps that one of them is willing to buy nearly as much Asia has ordered lol) and make 10,000 of these just to make it some kind of online exclusive? Because, if that guy is to be believed, that's what it's ending up as anyways in a round about way.

It just doesn't make sense. I'm sure Hasbro could sell 8000 of these but, based on how orders have been trickling in, I really don't see them thinking they can get 10.00 or these sold unless they're banking on everyone buying more then three of these guys. Everyone. I really don't think Hasbro is that out of touch and insane.

Good luck dude! Hopefully he'll be receptive, if you're helping to pay it off, it isn't all that much once spread over a year.

Let’s be real. The deadline extension guarantees that only one thing is certain: that the conspiracy theories in this thread on both sides of the debate will continue to blossom.

I told you all the deadline wouldn’t matter either way since it would still find a way to be made.

That's the one thing I have going for me! Because of this extension, I'll have more than enough in my bank account to buy this without affecting my other regular expenses. It's more of a problem with size and space.

I think you are right. Damn shame, I was hoping for another Ollie's discount down the road. I guess I'm paying full price for Titan Skorponoks
