Barely 8000 people can afford one, let alone two.

You are wondering what the aftermarket price may be? Astronomical I'd say, look at the premarket and those are preorders.

Check out how Metroplex blew up and he wasnt even super limited to only 8000 units, has multiple versions all of which are much more expensive than OG retail.

I'd expect the immediate aftermarket to start no less than $1200 or so and that's being very generous as shipping would be ridiculous plus profit, plus tax, plus handling, plus insurance because obviously youd want that.
Heck maybe itll start at $1600

Don't think people are actively "dying to make this fail". If that's the case, people would be going to Twitter, etc to discourage people from buying.

    that's all kinds of frightening

I remember backing the Barge but not really paying any attention to it beyond the occasional update from Haslab and a peek at the numbers every week or so...I had no idea there was a lot of venom (but since its in a UK forum is it mostly due to the fact the Barge wasn't originally available at all to them? I guess its sort of the same with Unicron, though they are making more of an international outreach)

if this plays out like the Barge I'll be resigned (relieved?) that it will not be a go on Friday, then be stunned on Saturday when the numbers flip

Of course this is just my opinion, but sure would be nice to have the etailer numbers give us some assurances and maybe the conversation on Saturday will be about stretch goals!

Person quoting ebay prices is not looking at the average price for the barge, or is intentionally leaving it out. Yeah, some can sell that high, but if you look at the average, it's selling for $875 on the secondary market.

Call me a cynic if you like, but the 8000 backer goal is meaningless. If Hasbro set the bar at 8000, they can turn a profit with less than that. I'm betting the actual cutoff point is in the neighborhood of 6000. At the end of the day, that blue bar will display whatever number Hasbro wants it to display. None of us will ever know if 8000 orders were really placed or not. They set the goal higher than their profit margin to get more people to buy a product they wouldn't buy otherwise. Those who buy two just to ensure it gets produced are playing right into their hands.

I totally agree. I’m expecting magic numbers to appear out of thin air and hit 8000. Either way, I think 8000 was the ideal, but not the actual goal. Example. If I need $5, but I say I need $20, that’s $15 extra in my pocket. $20 being the ideal, but my goal was $5.

I beg to differ, please do show your math for $875.
