Now I know where they got the idea for the way megatron looked in gun mode: 67299134_10156620197022055_37614224066740224_n.jpg e5b3ed134e53ffb32020529eeb637b47.jpg

That’s what the original pre-Transformers Megatron was called. Gun Robo P38 U.N.C.L.E. Or at least, that’s what the version with the scope, stock and silencer accessories was called, which happened to be the version that got imported.

Some old pics of my MC-13 UNCLE set, from a few years ago so the quality isn't up to modern standards, and I'm not taking it out of the Detolf for new ones!

One of my favourite Megs', and one that isn't going in my current clearout of some Megs, this will be one of the very last TF's I would sell, if ever.

What if one of the episodes he tossed the gun into the air and it transformed into a 20 foot robot.

Yup. Though IIRC that setup was based on a real set of add-on parts for the p-38 (a German service pistol during ww2) to be more effective in a setting where a rifle would be needed (hence the stock, scope, and barrel), that was issued to artillery crews.

Edit: apparently that's not completely true, the 'uncle gun' was custom built, though maybe the prop designers drew inspiration from a luger artillery set similar to what I described.

Sounds like the gun has an interesting enough history on its own, however!

This really is fascinating, thank you. I am quite new to this hobby and this sort of thing is very useful and valuable.

@ninety May I save copies of your photographs for private use?

    Thanks all.

@Comet Feel free, anything that's on the net is usually fair game tbh!! I'd watermark anything I didn't want shared/used. They are old grainy pics though, have a look on eBay for listings, you'll likely find better quality pics of the set.

Edit: Just noticed you're a fellow Scot :)
