I've been watching them, but I picked up quite a few items this year, hence why I am so close to completing my collection. Only those two left at this point. It's been a good year.

This is a question I have often thought about. I want to get back into collecting G1. But I want to collect MIB. If you could only pick between US MIB version versus Japanese MIB version, which would you go for? Side note, I find the best pictures here guys. Just looking at G1 when having a long day at work seems to life the spirits a bit.

Pros and Cons for both. Japanese releases have the nice styrofoam inserts instead of bubbles. Japanese releases are harder to track down, more expensive for worse condition. I started off trying to collect the Japanese releases but stopped after realising I could get sealed US G1 for the asking price of poorly conditioned Japansse releases.

Little bit more Drag Strip with added 'hidden' stickers.

It really adds a completely new dimension to the vintage G1 stuff when the stickers are pristine and placed 100% correctly. I didn't use repros for this job, though, just the vintage sticker sheet that came with the toy.

True, but the one I'm buying has stickers already applied and I don't feel like tracking down a vintage sheet.

If you're going for the look that the instructions suggest, repro will do the trick obviously. But, it turns out there's not enough 'extra' of the stripe print on the repro sheet, though, if you want to re-create the proto/mock-up look I've gone for with the pictured Drag Strip.

Umm, So I found some G1 seekers at a antiques shop today, but they all have different labels(/tags I dunno the right term). Ramjet has Hasbro and Takara, Thundercraker only has Takara and Starscream has none. Does this mean Thundercracker is the Takara version? Is starscream a KO or reissue? Help would be appreciated.

Starscream, Skywarp and Thundercracker versions all exist without any copyright, they are the earliest release and the moulding resembles that of their previous release in Japan as Diaclone toys.

The jets that have only Takara copyrights are typically from 1984 and the pre-rubsign era of releases. When the Hasbro copyright line is added, that's normally an indication of 1985 and onwards versions, the rubsign era.

There's some overlap and transitional periods (you can even find Ramjets with Takara only stamps for example), but it's a rough guide you can use :thumb

Thundercracker and Ramjet are - sorry I just looked at the pics - the grey jet is actually a bootleg Kingdam F-15, based on the Diaclone Starscream.

So Starscream is a bootleg, but a vintage bootleg.

You do get official Transformers Starscreams with no copyright, that isn't one of them, though.

Yeah the blue is different too, depending on which version you get. He might have come packaged like this originally:

    Kingdam06B1.jpg

    Kingdam06A.jpg

There are quite a few packaging variants of this bootleg, actually!
