good riddance. I collect MP only (Takara/3P) and none of that has plastic windows. So, seems to me only the cheaper toys intended for children currently have that window thing going on. Get rid of it!

 

MP packaging still uses a lot of plastic inside the boxes though...

 

This is good news both for the environment and because all that plastic is annoying. I much prefer the Selects boxes over the Siege ones with windows, and since I buy mostly online I’m not concerned about swapping or any of that stuff.

Bravo Hasbro.

 

Highly doubt im about to say anything that hasn't already been said, but this is both great and worrying.

The Good
-Saving the environment, even if this type of packaging is more expensive, Hasbro is putting a good foot forward as a massive company and I'm down for that
-Entirely closed packaging could mean more intense box art instead of just a visual of the figure inside, look at WFC: Siege Jetfire, his box looked great! and i haven't heard of a single QC issue on any of the boards about him.
The Bad
-If the packages are now entirely closed, we cant see if there are paint errors / other qc errors. Fully closed boxes would only be great if Hasbro instilled some prior confidence in use with really consistent qc, which they unfortunately haven't it seems.
-If the boxes are open, we can get ready for chips, bumps, scratches, and stress marks on pretty much all of our figures before we get them now.

While figure sizes of deluxe and up are going to remain pretty unchanged despite removing the plastics, I'm really intrigued how they're going to do smaller figures like battle/target masters. All in all this is a good thing for the environment, seems like the general consensus is people are happy about the environmental aspect, and worried how it might change the quality of the product

 

FYI, there are plastic alternatives which could be used with no real change in packaging techniques, and the fact that such a large company may be investing in such things just means the technology for replacing plastic will advance faster. 

 

If only mad max had a MISB g1 megatron, he coulda traded it for all the water he would ever have needed in his climate chaos future.

Yeah, you know, I always store the accesories back in the trays if I don't feel like using them that much. Then again I feel they're only aiming at the lower end toys, and not much affect higher ends.

The story says Hasbro is phasing plastic out. They've already started that if you look at the Cyberverse stuff. One-Steps, Ultra class...they're focusing on solutions for easier stuff that has fewer small parts and are less likely to break if left open where customers can hold them.

Because, as this forum tends to forget...Hasbro is more than Transformers.

Oh yes, how dare we mock the people who think the toy industry is going to suddenly be hit with a wave of theft for doing something they've already been doing for decades.

How long until they want to eliminate the plastic toys themselves? I suppose they could make actual Rock Lords.

So you cut down fewer trees by producing packaging that can be broken down and reused as other things, thus reducing the need for more trees.

Also, you can plant more trees. The problem isn't "cutting down tress" it's "cutting down trees faster than we can grow new ones to replace them."

And they’re dealing with theft now. You don’t think there will be an increase when people figure out the store can’t tell what’s actually in the box being returned?
Oh, and the mocking of people that are concerned about paint issues. That’s a real concern, especially with Marvel Legends. I even mentioned a specific example in an earlier post. Some collectors want to see what they’re purchasing, to the extent that that is possible. That’s a perfectly legitimate point and a real concern. Not everyone buys exclusively online.

 

Like I said earlier, where I live there's at least one dude who brazenly swaps out figures in their packaging before returning them. And when I say "brazen" I'm referring to them doing it to carded/bubble figures as well as those in boxes with windows.

The people who do this won't care if there's a window or not.

And if you're one of the Chicken Littles who think this is going to lead to a wave of figure swapping...here's a handy rule: Don't buy stuff that appears to have been opened.

If you've already got time to inspect paint apps you've got time to inspect the seal.
