This will definitely make the numbers. The retailers alone will add thousands. That’s only in the USA. Asia retailers is ordering as well. But those may not count for the numbers which is just greed. The barge was the same. When the last few days come this can easily go way above what’s needed just like the sail barge. I have zero doubts this won’t make it. It’s guaranteed just like the sail barge.

I’m not going to worry about it unless it’s over 800 on September 1st. Because that means my spot for my $3k Shockwave statue will now be claimed by my wife's $600 Unicron.

I love this idea. I mean I've been holding out hope that we might still be able to remove the shells but repurposing them as part of the stand to recreate that standing-on-Cybertron scene is genius.

Wouldn't it be more greedy to count money that lets you produce the toy and make money?

"Backers" i.e. stores selling them for 749.99 afterwards.

Still, not a bad deal for people who have contributed. Given the recession can be seen just over yonder, those stores will have "Clearance" sale. That would be the time to pounce.

Watching that one to get a better idea of how this may work out.

Also, he's awesome. Not something I could or would spend that money on, but I'd love to have one.

Yeah, Cookie Monster does look good. I get that there's less of an audience for him, but he dos look great.

Me personally I have no interest but then I'd want a functional Muppet. And they'll never make that for obvious reasons (and I can't say I blame them, either)

... much like the plans for the Deathstar... a commando strike team of Bothan spies sent by the the Zeta Rebel Alliance are in route... once the shield generator is down... the plans for Unicron will be theirs.

    :D

Honestly, why isn't there a movie about stealing toy company plans? We have a movie about stealing The Phantom Menace, there MUST be a market for that.

Playing collector psychologist for a moment, if I had to bet why the Barge got such a big boost in the last few days, I suspect it wasn’t from collectors on the fence waiting to see if it got backed before jumping in. My money is it was collectors who didn’t want to spend $500 on it and wanted it to fail so they wouldn’t miss out on it. Better it not exist than not have something that does. We’ve seen that attitude in this very thread.

but after it was fully backed with a few days to spare those collectors, who didn’t want to buy, were faced with buying something they didn’t want to spend that much money on or not having a rare collectors piece that would make their collections feel incomplete. In true collector compulsion form they bought it but not because they wanted it but because they feared not having something that others would.

The question is will Unicron fund with enough time for those same types of collectors to buy into it despite their vocal opposition to it? As Shakespeare said, the lady doth protest too much, methinks.

It's also possible retailers jumped on it for resale purposes, since then it'd be more of a "spend $1000+ for 200% payback" rather than "pledge $1000 in hopes this thing will happen with currently (at the time before it was backed) questionable fanfare"

Wasn't the sail barge at around 3300 with only 11 days left? I realize the bar to pass was lower (5000), but that was not a sure thing until the end. I believe Haslab's biggest mistake with Unicron has been that crazy 8000 backer requirement. Transformers collectors are quite different from the Star Wars collectors. If I had a dollar for every time I heard a TF fan say, "I will wait for the KO", I would have a few hundred dollars by now. That mentality does not exist in the Star Wars community.

Yeah, but Star Wars doesn't have improved knock offs, does it?

Plus Hasbro's always had a bit of an ego about Transformers.

3300/5000 is around 65%. This thing has not even passed 50%, heck, it's still hasn't passed 37.5%

Bill Gates better be a Transformers fan.

*Sigh* Yeah, I will admit the KO MP Tracks was actually an improvement over the official.

Ego? Not sure where you are getting that idea.

Yeah, that's why I mentioned the 8000 backer requirement in my post. That was a mistake by Haslab.
