It's amazing how fast it piles up even after just a few orders (I ship mostly without packaging). I even put it in a big bucket first and step on it to crush it down lol, and that's just my small store in the corner of the internet. I also considered getting some Precious Plastic machines to make stuff with it.

Yeah. You can just not care if the eyes on your 80th Anniversary Captain America figure are looking in two different directions. And there's a great big gash in the white star on his chest. I mean, what collector cares about something like that?
There's certainly a bunch of self-righteous nonsense in this thread. It's ridiculous that some people can't even concede that the side they don't agree with has an actual valid point.

every time i pick up a carded bubble TF (or other toy) i try my hardest to remove the plastic bubble without ruining the art...because i collect card backs, but I just don’t manage it. i know you can steam them or whatever but I think moving away from plastic will mean i’ll have nicer art to keep.

cardboard trays will definitely make the boxes feel sturdier. as someone who keeps boxes i find siege boxes kinda flimsy so the change makes me happy

 

Yeah, I don't get what's the downside with producing less trash. I'm sincerely not trying to be preachy or whatever but producing less trash is kinda like the lowest bar on what we can all agree with, right?

I am not discounting that some folks dislike the loss of the window and their reasons for being unhappy with that but I'm utterly confused why folks would be grumpy about this helping Hasbro produce less trash.

 

Glad I invested in a pair of x-ray glasses. Now I can use it to inspect the figure within a box with no windows...

Good for the environment, bad for the collector. This could be problematic. That said, more often than not, TT pulls off pretty good looking MPs without a bunch of visual errors right out of the box (bad paint, misassembled figures like MP Ramjet) so maybe it'll rub off on Hasbro? I mean, Skyfire turned out alright.

 

You mean the paper straws that 1) get soggier than value brand corn flakes after 30 seconds of exposure to a liquid and 2) take more energy to produce than plastic and 3) are less recyclable than the old straws? Wait till you pay $99.99 for your new deluxe sized transforming 50th Anniversary G1 paper dolls in 2034. (And they'll still use slave labor to make them, you know...to cut labor costs.)

 

All the Siege exclusives (like the G2 Sideswipe & Skywarp pack) didn't have any window boxes and instead had awesome big box art - and nobody complained. AND the figures are largely fine. I just can't see the problem here. Plus most of us are trending towards largely purchasing toys online and its not like you get a chance to inspect your figure first when you order from amazon or BBTS.

 

so it'll probably take into affect with armegaddon but will the recently annouced ss figures change the box?

 

After changing to more sustainable paper suppliers a couple of years back, this isn't surprising. I'm concerned about not noticing paint and other physical defects until I crack open the box, but considering how little I buy at brick-and-mortar stores, I'm already blind to what I order online as is. As love package art though, hopefully this development will lead to huge character pictures, or even a return to some semblance of a bio. Take Siege Skyfire as an example of the former, as noted above.

What I'm worried about is what this will do to MISB/MOC, etc. collectors. There won't be any toy to see.

 

I look forward to a time when cornstarch replaces cardboard and we can just eat the packaging.

 

For those concerned with losing the windows, has anyone suggested glass?

Seriously, though, couldn't they use recyclable clear plastic, like soda bottles? I imagine someone in this thread had asked that question already...
