Well, no, they used to be paper ties, and before that wire/plastic twist ties. However the current thin plastic ties they have now use far less materials than either, but expect those to go extinct now.

Curious to see where this goes, and at face value it's an admirable choice by Hasbro.

Given how long the whole plastic tie thing has taken to be phased out, though, we could have plastic in our packaging for quite some time.

isn't there biodegradable plastic? having no window would make a cooler looking box in my opinion but not being able to lookout for paint defects before you open kinda sucks. i know mps dont have windows but i feel they have more quality assurance than retail lines when it comes to paint(not saying that defects don't happen on them)

No, cardboard is definitely less bad than plastic. Paper and cardboard come from tree farms that are specifically grown to turn into those things. Paper and cardboard can also decompose unlike plastic. Replacing plastic with cardboard is the correct solution but whether it's good for collectors is another thing.

With biodegradable plastic, there is a risk of introducing microplastic pollution in our soil and water because of the way it breaks down.

    YES!

    YES YES!

    Very interesting!

True, though Masterpiece QC is still an issue, it's just one customers have no control over while still MISB.

    YES!

HECK YES! It's all about single-use plastics or not.

    Exactly!

Exactly. When it comes to plastic bags, paper is more resource-heavy to produce than plastic, but it still decomposes better or is better recycled, and reduces those single-use plastics. I mean, micro-particles of plastic in the Arctic - we don't need that shit!

I think this is a great idea and I hope they find a reasonable solution. My only concern is with toy swappers. There's a Black Knight with a Sasquach leg at a local target who probably doesn't think this is a great thing. I can definitely see an uptake in people getting MLs especially and returning them because the BAF piece was "missing"

This is great and all but unless we get the main contributors of pollution on board with these initiatives, such as China, it won't make as much of a difference as I assume they're hoping it will.

I only really get my figures online, so this doesn\'t make much of a difference for me at all tbh.

This Is really cool, but does this mean they are going to have to change up how they package small figures? and what of the star wars vintage collection?
I think we need to develop plastic that disintegrates in contact with a special chemical mixture.

where this is true for some biodegradable plastics it's not true for plant based biodegradable plastics such as cornstarch based they give off C02 when they degrade and once they have degraded fully whats left is next to zero and it takes a matter of months for this to happen

So basically, I won’t be able to see what I’m buying nor will I know if I’m buying that exact product? Well, that sucks but less plastic is good. Might as well start ordering online now.

They've already cut some plastic from the figures. Why not this? I wonder how much prices will go up anyway.

Siege Jetfire is windowless... the Amazon exclusive "Strike" box sets are too...

I think they'll have to work on tamper-proofing the boxes to do something about swappers. Anything tamper-evident would at least be at tip that someone's mucked about with the product. Or, use a window material that is biodegradable.

So if they're not going to use plastic for the toys themselves, then what will they be comprised of? Also, I don't think I want my figures to be biodegradable--I want them to last and not crumble into dust after two years.
