I’m scared the main issue will be that it’s so good we’ll need to buy a second one to display in alt mode.

Nah, life's too short to worry about that. Perfection's a myth, but if we strive to attain it then we'll come as close as we can :thumb

I don't think MP-44 is gonna have the same issues like MP-36. I love the design and the whole package of MP-36, but I was always bothered by three issues:

    1) The plastic did not feel as good as prior MP's and even future MP's. Not sure if that is compounded by the texture of the paint, but he felt a little off to me. The price was pretty cheap though. I feel this may be why he was a leader figure that was fully painted with loads of accessories for only $230 (less if Amazon.jp). Pretty cheap compared to other figures now a days and even some early ones. I mean MP-10 was $250 in the states, and nowhere near as cool as MP-36.

    2) The Paint scratches way too easy. I know wear and tear are things, but MP-36 felt weaker than other figs in the MP paint department. Sometime after MP-36 there was an article with the designers, and they said paint and articulation were going to be big focuses down the line. MP-39 is holding strong on it's paint, and is still my personal favorite MP. Other MPs with notable strong paint are: + carbots, MP-43's printed detail, 27's red, 33's red. Red seems to be a strong paint color on these figs. That leads me to believe 44 is gonna be solid. Takara has said they plan to improve, and I feel they are on the paint front.

    3) Alt mode tolerance was the one that bothered me the most. Lots of issues, and even had to send my first one back due to the barrels hinge not being able to rotate down. I had to also do some work on my second to get the barrel to line up properly, and before that I couldn't even see the front iron sites while looking down the rear sites. We have already seen a final MP-44 at a show in China, and the alt mode fit and finish are nothing less than spectacular.

TL;DR is that MP-44 is going to be glorious!

I don't think MP36 paint cured long enough or whatever protectant they are using. That was the first MP I bought that the smell of chemicals hit me in the face when I opened. I actually let him for 15 min. Only time I get those chemical blast is with 3P stuff.

Oh yeah I forgot about the initial smell. S.H. Figuarts Spike was kind of like that too. Only figs with a notable smell out of the package.

Did he have an orange barrel plug? That probably the glue you smelled. Mine was the same way and it was the glue, which also made its removal that much easier. Got mine from BBTS.

Mine didn't have the plug. My two were from Toy Dojo.

The Chosen Prime didn’t have a plug in mine either, oddly enough.

No mines came from AJ. Normally there a "new" bot smell but mimes definitely smelled like chemicals. Seeing how Sunstreaker had his unpainted parts covered, I wouldn't be surprised if they get a final coat of something before packaging.

So after a few months after i get MP-44 i'll be getting a megatron to go with him and at first I wanted to go with MP-36 but you guys are complaining a heck of a lot about it. Some major issues I heard about so far are loose joints, unable to transform, orange plugs and of course, the paint chipping. Are these still problems with the reissues? I might just get the IT version, as it fixes most of these problems, but what do you guys think?

All of these complaints are about the first edition release, as far as I know.

Yeah I am fairly certain they are all just 1st run issues. I have heard good things about the reissues. I'll probably snag a reissue if they do another run that pops on Amazon.jp. Use my first run as the battle damaged Megs at autobot city.

Are the orange plugs just a USA thing?

First and only time I had that problem with an official, but then again my paint damage isn't really that bad, I'm hardpressed to replace him with a V2 because besides a few small scratches and a small scuff or too he's held up well. Even his faces/chest I keep in a box with all the other accessories, they still don't have scratches

I really can't because that head is awful, I'm sorry. It looks like an android cosplaying Prime.

Cool if you do, and I'm sure someone out there will be able to sell it to you and modify it somehow.

    But seriously,

    :puke:

That figure overall looks like a decent Prime, much better than MP-10, that's for sure.

I watched EmGo’s review of TE-01 and I gotta say I’m impressed by the engineering. But his articulation isn’t up to snuff with the latest MPs. And yeah his second run head is a lot better but still not quite as good as MP-44’s movie head sculpt.
