Was there ever a KO of the MB-04?

Just trying to find out as I'm looking at stuff for sale.

To be frank, those kinds of “unified threads” are worse than useless. Just look back over the last three or four pages of this thread and count how many different conversations are running concurrently on how many different products.
A general weapons and accessories thread is going to get swamped pretty quick. Every time a new manufacturer announces a new accessory, it adds to the melting pot.
It’s far better to have unique threads for unique products. There shouldn’t be anything wrong with discussion or comparison of a product with other, similar items in that items own thread.
I genuinely don’t think these kinds of threads allow comparative discussion, or much discussion at all. It’s just too confusing. What you end up with is two or three people discussing one product, interspersed with comments from four other people discussing a different product, and a bunch of random posts from scattered people talking about one off things... If there’s a product I’m interested in, it’s a lot easier to talk about it in it’s own thread. Sure, if you want a discussion about certain types of accessories for a figure or for a line, then create that as a thread. But throwing all accessories in together is as bad as expecting all Fans Toys products to be discussed in only one single thread.
Ask yourself before you create that thread, what do you actually want to talk about? Because the thread as you describe it is open to discussions about the Shadow Fisher replacement head for MP-10, a Dr Wu sword for Generations Arcee, a hand upgrade kit for WeiJiang’s KO of last night Megatron and an add-on for a Legends scale, 3P Dinobot, as well as about a thousand other items that I can think of. What value is there in having all those things in one single thread? You want to discuss upgrades for City Commander, create a thread for that. Talk about any other upgrades that are out there that may be used with that figure. And avoid every man and his dog dropping in to tell you he’s found that a specific Gundam pistol is a perfect fit for some random figure you’ve never heard of.

I was't especially thinking about whole body Upgrades or heads, yes I was thinking about kits - but yes I agree many of them are more than substantial enough to merit their own thread. I wasn't suggesting seperate threads shouldn't exist - rather I was thinking about the Matrix Workshop thread and how it sort of degenerates into discussion of whatever TF Safari just listed. I wasn't thinking of Sticker upgrades or Display bases either -those are distinct subjects.

A good example might be the relative merit of the upgrades for given characters where multiple ones exist (such as accessories for POTP Battle Trap) It just seemed a trifle frivilous to me to create a thread just on Micromaster/Base ramps for example. The reason such a thread has at least some potential and one of the reasons I keep considering making it - is cross-brand interactions. for example adding the Nonnef Productions 5mm Convertors to other things. or Mixing an matching upgrades on a Siege toy (I have plans for my Hiound to be wearing 3 or 4 different manufacture's bits for example to get the look I want).

Sure I can talk about some of this stuff in here, or I can derail one of the specific product threads - but I feel uncomforable talking about Siege Upgrades in general in the main forum's Siege Thread, it seems disengenuous to push them in the face of Hasbro purists.
    ----

But since I'm here now I would for example suggest the merits of using BOTH most of the Matrix Workshop and part of the Shockwave's Lab upgrades (perhaps even more than that) on a Siege Soundwave.

Why don't we all just create brand new threads, for all the ones that were merged? We can put a "NEW" Moniker at the start of each? Then, someone can put a link to all of the new ones as a post here, then simply lock/close this thread afterwards.

NO THANKS DO NOT ENCOURAGE ANYONE TO LOCK THIS THREAD

This is the hang out thread for the KO community as much as it is the unofficial news and Sir Toys thread. If there was only individual threads there would be no community - just fragmentation and posts with people complaining about something not being out yet... or how slow the mail is.

Not a fan of locking this one, but I wouldn't mind recreating the 'missing' threads.

I think this thread should remain the "central" KO thread, where all general news passes through. I think that remains really convenient.

Then, more granular, specific discussions can be followed in their own threads. Makes sense, right?

Of course, having specific item threads is only useful if we can follow a consistent pattern for naming those threads. Sometimes it's hell to find KO and 3P threads because everybody calls these toys something slightly different (or there are limits placed on what information is allowed in the title, for stupid reasons). In most cases, including the name of the (original, official) character is probably the easiest way to find the right result.

ie: "BMB Oversized POTP Dinobot homage" or whatever.

100% (well 85%) foot-shot. 5MM is the universal toy standard (or as close to one as ever will be), THAT is the one design element that should always remain sacrosanct unless otherwise impossible to accomplish something important!!! More thoughts along the same lines below.

Thanks guys! Love that the "Platform" idea is getting some traction.

RE KAT02s, the ebay stock isn't up yet, but I might be able to rummage something up for YOU, if ya DM me nicely :)

That's what "Bossman" has really been on about lately. Building a KO Community like the KOToys days, only not run by a crackhead drama queen. Paul is SO CLOSE to being that guy, but he doesn't have the time to do it.

DEED is also talking about trying to get all the 3D DIY Shapeways Thingiverse etc whatever crowd under one easily searchable data base including links between products and compatible toys (Including KOs).

I get why the big sites are running risks letting KO talk get to big.

So maybe we can pick up the slack. Would there be interest? Someone suggested starting out on a subreddit or something. Not my area of expertise, but could work. Community thoughts?

Mods- Would there be a way for a partner group of fans from the TFW Community to set up a KO-Sister-Site Harbor, On-The Record or Half-On-The-Record? Could taking the heat from you on the KO liabilities make your lives easier? I think we could work that out.

    Thoughts?

This super-gestalt thread of doom is unholy. Anyone got a proper Gestalt Name for it?

Why not just wait for the official notice on what happened and what, if any rule changes there will be? Too soon for talk about creating new forums and whatnot in my opinion.

I agree that there should be stricter rules on thread titles. At the very least, the company name/acronym and character should be included for easier searching.

You don't understand. I meant create ALL the threads again, including THIS ONE. Then, we can start it again, as a blank slate.

I mean, we could. But I'm not sure why we should bother rebooting this thread, when the old one works fine (with some hiccups) and has a whole history behind it.

Agreed... 5mm is such a normative standard across many different toys and products, it really doesn't seem like there's any point in changing it, even if you're avoiding certain legal entanglements. I love the WJ Predaking, but those 2 issues (the lack of compatibility and the GPS potential) still bother me.

It is kind of interesting / weird how WJ made a point of remolding just about every part of that figure and changing the minor surface detailing... I guess to meet some minimum standard of originality to market the product without legal hassles?

    Confusicus? Obscurion? Dysfunctor? Clusterfucticon?

Hi Paul, is there any chance you will be stocking these Dinobots individually?

Well, first, it would be nice to know what HAPPENED/WHY IT HAPPENED so that there isn't any sort of hidden "rules" that we don't know about (which seems to be the feeling you guys have created now).
