Dragon Age 4 lead producer leaves Bioware Anthem lead producer Ben Irving is leaving BioWare | PC Gamer These two are very recent. I want to say two or 3 days apart. Not looking good.
I view this as 50/50 sort of news. On the one hand, Anthem was not good, and Dragon Age 4 sounded like it was going down a very bad road as well. In the long term, this is probably good news, because they were not very good at their jobs to be honest. I don’t want to sound like I’m celebrating the fact that they lost their job, but I can’t deny the quality of the products put out and their poor sales as a result. On the other hand, I still think it’s too little too late. Do you really think EA is going to push back DA4 because of this? Of course not! Mass Effect Andromeda’s final year of development was a rush job, and Anthem’s initial E3 demo has been outed as a fraud and that the bulk of that game’s development came after that demo (they had a completely different title a few days before the demo’s debut). EA is going to make sure they hit their release date deadline; especially with the new console generation rolling in. I don’t think EA is going to tolerate 3 flops in a row. It looks to me like Casey Hudson has the right intentions in trying to salvage BioWare, but at this point, I think he’s trying to fix the Titanic with duct tape.
Agreed. Up until the end of the Thessia mission, ME 3 was one of the top 10 RPGs ever made. And even that lead to the best Renegade moment in the whole series (IMO)....
I liked their games but I never loved them. I think their games age terribly. But it’s sad to see the possibility of a shut down.
Mass Effect 3 was an amazing game up until the last 10 minutes. While it was a disappointing conclusion to the story, it really doesn’t change the fact that I loved the first 25 hours of the game. I’d still say I enjoyed it more than Mass Effect 1, but 1 had the better story overall. Mass Effect 2 is nearly perfect in every way, and it remains my second favorite game of all time behind Uncharted 2.
Mass Effect 2 is one of my favourite games of all time. Sad this might be happening but i haven’t really been excited for a BioWare game since Mass Effect 3 (which I did enjoy but the ending just left a bad taste in my mouth, and then I couldn’t get behind andromeda, then the reviews came in etc). Hopefully the team behind Mass Effect will band together and make a spiritual successor in the not too distant future.
To my understanding, most of the old BioWare team is either not in the industry anymore or scattered across numerous companies. On a side note, I don’t know how good Greedfall will be, but I think the developers behind it have the right idea with some rather ambitious intentions. There isn’t anything wrong with DragonAge II in my view other than the repeated caves and shit. Story and character wise the game is as good as Origins and frankly it’s gameplay is better - silent protagonist and whatever arse about system they employed made playing Origins a goddamn chore. As for Mass Effect 3, on release it was disappointing, the EC made it okay, HappyEnding Mod made it great. This studio and these IPs deserved a way better ending than this. Mercy it may be but it’s still fucking tragic.
Dragon Age 2 is god’s mistake. Meh, I just thought mass effect 3 was an overall bad game. I had lots of fun seeing my brother rage at everything, though.
