I wonder if you lift up the roof and front part of the bonnet/hood and drop him in. It looks as though the front part of the roof is on a hinge that works that way for the transformation:



Although I would have thought the arm roof pieces would block that... Maybe @Phamduc will put us out of our misery soon after his cryptic hints.  

 

Once they make a Metroplex you can put spike in an elevator and send him up to the seat.

I think this is how he would go in. The forearms could be the seat headrest for spike.



Also looks like the fake chest EDIT - windows are - completely covered up by the alt mode shell so there's a tiny chance we could get 2 different colored windows. BUt that would probably make the mfg/materials cost go up so it may just be 1 color.

I agree with @ambitron , the windscreen could fold forward like some Titan Master/Prime Master cars to allow the drivers to sit in the cockpit.

 

Wait wait wait...are we really saying they went to all that trouble (an possibly compromised the robot mode) of making the doors open, only for Spike not to be able to get in via the doors? It's just so Spike can be posed opening the doors/climbing out?....WOW.

 

door is part of the feet which involve rotation and hinge
frankly speaking you *can* squeeze him in via the door , it's just pretty difficult to close the door because the door also sit on a tight sliding mechanism. it require abit more clean up act to line up the parts of altmode properly.
The manual just state to do the latter because it's easier.
I can see you are clearly not a fan of that idea. I have no complain.

 

No I'm not, and good for you. Horses for courses I guess. I wouldn't have posted, don't wanna upset anyone, but it's quite the shocker to me that they'd make such a design decision... I mean how many of us wanted or needed opening doors? Over clean looking feet?....Oh well returning to radio silence.

 

My guess is that the opening doors are made possible by or easily integrated into the transformation and not something that compromised the overall design.

 

Yeah, I think the door opening gimmick was not necessarily related to the Spike riding inside gimmick. The opening doors are for the toy car enthusiasts a la Sunstreaker and MP-44 and would have been done regardless of whether Spike could fit. The fact that they were able to make room in there for him was just a bonus.

 

Yeah, while we might have presumed the heels are a 'sacrifice' to allow opening doors and to put Spike inside, their only functionality is the 'decorative' doors like Sunstreaker. It's alright with me, at this scale it's a lot harder to pack in as many features. I'm not seeing an immediate alternative to the heels without adding even more mass to the already over-stuffed body.
