Holy crud!!! This movie is awesome! This is a proper finale the series deserved. I love that every major Zim character (minus 1) was involved and Professor Membrane gets a ton of screentime! Only wish we had Spoiler Tak. Seriously her ship uses Tak's voice, they could have involed Tak in the story.
I've got some minor quibbles (mostly that the art style was a bit too rounded, in my opinion) but overall, it was a really fun little movie.
That was pretty great. Hopefully they release it for purchase at some point. Yeah, it was definitely more rounded. Dib's face didn't come to an angle on the sides like how it used to look. Man that kid has a gigantic head. I need a gif of Zim saying humans can't handle all this. Edit: Made one.
I liked it. I wouldn't consider it a finale (I don't know if that was the intention) but it feels like an extended episode. It was fun!
Just finished watching it this morning. Gir is hilarious as always (poor pug!) and Professor Membrane launching a Kamehameha was just awesome. Yes to a sequel!
Yeah, pretty sure Earth would be just fine if there was an actual invasion. Now knowing Invader Zim, were there a continuation, there would be little to no reference to these events besides maybe Clembrane in the background every now and then.
I finally sat down and watched this. That was probably the best cartoon revival I’ve seen in a long time (I was honestly pretty disappointed in the Rocko special, and I surprisingly haven’t seen the Hey Arnold jungle movie yet). It really didn’t feel like the show had been off the air so long because everything just feels so consistent. The writing and the jokes are still in that same dark absurdist style, and almost all of them land. This show originally aired when I was 5 years old. I’m now 23, and I laughed out numerous times during this movie. They really do a great job with making jokes with the animation and how the voice actors deliver lines. It goes without saying that Gir is a galactic treasure, and Professor Membrane stole many scenes in the movie as well. I’m glad that it didn’t feel too much like an extended episode either. This did raise the stakes, and it even added in some surprising emotional beats that the show didn’t have, and they actually worked. It’s basically a story about two people trying to win the approval of the people they look up to, and it’s also a story where a robot disguised as a dog shoots a pug into outer space and a piece of ham helps save the world. I even liked Gaz better in the movie too. I always liked her as a one note character in the show as well, but it was nice to see her actually caring about things too. The movie didn’t feel dated at all either. There was no over the top iPhone references or stuff like that. The references they did have were a joy though. They manage to reference Alien and Spaceballs with one gag, and I smiled at the Dukes of Hazzard freezes. I don’t know if they made an intentional reference to Disney’s The Black Hole at one point, but there are definitely parallels. I personally feel that it was a decent way to end the show if they don’t make anymore (kinda like the first Futurama movie). At the same time, I would welcome more episodes/specials, but I don’t feel like it’s entirely necessary.
Watched it. Liked it. The animation style was slightly more rounded, and I definitely prefer the sharper style, but this was good too. Definitely a ton better than most cel animation I’ve seen on tv in the last decade. It didn’t all work for me, but whatever minor gripes I had were completely overshadowed by just how much energy & fun was pumped into this. A welcome revival/finale.
Got to watch half of this before I passed out. Loved it so far! Lol fucking loved this show when it originally came out.
Got around to watch it today. It's definitely Zim. Can confirm. Amazing it was. How the pug got blasted to space. How the Tallest cursed themselves by remembering Zim. NOW I REQUIRE MORE!!! GIVE IT TO ME, NICK OF THE ELODEONS!!! WE NEED MOAR!!!
I don't like how Thanos ripped off Agent Smith with the whole inevitable thing. Thought that was very unoriginal.
Theory time: Spoiler membranes in chronic denial about aliens. It's the one thing science can't explain, so he just denies it. He's one of the smartest people of that generation so for to not believe anything after the special it just seems unbelievable.
But wait. There's more! Brought to you by Transformers Botbots. "HAAAAAAAAM!!!" "You gonna order a million pizzas. And then I gonna roll around in them pizzas. And that's the story about how I turn into a giant pizza!"
