There's also Rattaro, Captain Shiner, and Hammerhand and his Berserkers as far as villains go. Then there's Snowman and Snow Meow and the Berbils for good guys. Willa, Nayda, and the Warrior Maidens (though they were pretty much filler characters and I doubt anybody is clamoring for figures of them). [Edit] Oh, and Hachiman. How could I have forgotten him? "While a warrior has his sword... he is never alone!"
It is what it is. Prices for everything are increasing considerably. Thundercats is a niche toy line so I expect low production numbers. Also Super 7 is a smaller company and don’t have the resources Mattel and Hasbro have. I imagine factories charge them more than they do the big boys because they are not churning out as much. Also at the end of the day they are a business and need to make money off of these. $45 for these is fair. It’s not great and it’s not terrible. At least you can actually order the product with ease. I’d rather pay the company $45 and actually get it than miss it for $20 at the store and pay some arsehole $45 on EBay for it.
@TattooedRobot I was just explaining since you said you didn't understand it. I don't think it's bright of Bryan to antagonize customers by bringing politics into it. He needs people to buy into the line. That he's launched with a higher than expected price and no new figures. And you're right, it's an aging demographic, so alot is riding on it working this time because there might not be a next time. That said, I ordered one and might go back for a second. I'm just a little underwhelmed...it's the same feeling I get when I don't know if Bandai is going to finish a team in SHF. If there had been a strong new figure in the wave, it might be different. They're going to have to wow me with wave two.
I'm cautiously optimistic about Super 7 doing Thundercats but won't be onboard until there's a Wave 2. A Thundertank reveal wouldn't hurt either.
I liked the Savage line but never picked up more than Panthro because it didn't gain my son's interest.
Funko seems to strike out with action figures. Always shelf warmers. All they are able to have success with is the damn pops that take up mad space.
What I don't get is why they bailed on the MLP vinyls. Those sold really well. Until they made a ton of side characters. And those weird cupcakes with faces and legs that nobody asked for. By the time they decided to do the main character, they seriously cut production. I could've sold every Twilight I could get my hands on but I got shorted on my first order and there were no more to be had. Also, I think Funko scared off alot of smaller shops with their first batch of Legacy figures smelling really bad out of the box. That and launching so many lines at once but finishing none of them. Half the Firefly cast, no supporting characters from Rocketeer, bailing on Game of Thrones, etc. Although I found there was zero crossover between toy collectors and GoT viewers. Mine didn't start to move until I marked them down to $5 or $10.
I just couldn’t get into the Savage World stuff because of the shoddy QC. I bought two figures and both figures had a leg fall off. Yes, you could put it back on, but barely touch it and it fell off again. No way I can support that. As for the Thundercats classics, I am in. Did not get the original Mattel ones, because I was tired of dealing with Matty collector, but I will give Super 7 a chance.
I saw a lot of the same thing, unfortunately, with Funko’s DC Primal Age figures. There were several different instances where I’d see one in the store where the figure’s leg had actually fallen off, inside the package blister. It’s a shame because I thought it was a really cool idea to release characters from different licenses in the Masters of the Universe vintage style.
While I understand why Super7 is releasing this line-up, IMO it would be good if they released a new figure...sort of throwing a bone to collectors? It would have build up the hype even more As it stands, I may only get Lion-O as a spare. But I must admit, I’m pretty excited...this could be potentially be the last action figure line I’m collecting.
I hope we get Mandora the Evil Chaser. Maybe we can get a repaint of Battlecat into SnowMeow for the Snowman.
Yeah, good luck with that. Every time I tell my wife that now, she just laughs in my face. I'm stuck in a perpetual cycle of starting up a new line and getting rid of another to make space. It's like toy purgatory. I thought Super 7's Thundercats would be my last new line. Except for Zica Sectaurs. Then the new Super 7 TMNT line that I just found out about today. Man, collecting really is about the journey, much as I sometimes want to find an end. But yeah, not even one new figure for T-cats Wave 1. They really went the economical/easy route, picking from figs that have already been tooled and are ready to go. The lack of any details on the upcoming figs is also a bit disappointing. I wonder if at least most of the main characters will make it into the lineup. And I still have concerns about Super 7's QC, based on my experiences with their He-Man figs. Hopefully, they're learning and improving along the way. I've been pretty disappointed with their quality, but I want them to succeed.
LOL! Yeah, I get what you mean. I get ruthlessness mocked not only by my family and friends but also the import shop owners in my country! However, I think its possible as I realised that as long as I stick to my “goal” of nostalgia based characters and toy-lines and not get into new stuff, its possible. For example, I’ll solely focus on the mobile suits from the original Gundam line for the Robot Spirits line - thus far (since the introduction of the OG bots), I have stuck to my goal. Other examples, would include Star Wars (only OT and PT characters) and Marvel Legends (comic book characters). I’ve started the culling of the toylines that I’m collecting. I can’t describe the feeling. It feels weird as strange at first but the eventually feeling is liberating! So its possible to actually ”stop”. But i must admit if a new toyline based on my nostalgia is launched (like G.I Joe) and is in the 6 inch, I will definitely go into it.
Super7 is making a serious commitment to this line per PowerCon. I am going to support it despite the prices. The quality control needs to be on point. I agree the TMNT stuff looks amazing. That's going to be hard to resist. I've managed to resist Toxie so far.
I would think we'd be seeing the next wave of Thundercats soon as the details released at Powercon state that wave 2 will go up for preorder in January with preorders currently planned to follow with wave three in April, wave four in July, and wave five in October. Each wave is planned to have four figures per wave. I'm definitely going to support the line. Only figure I didn't preorder from BBTS is Mum-Ra as I only want an "Ever Living" version.
Great interview. So all S7 releases going forward are going to be “Ultimates.” It’s a very smart move cause they can essentially pull any brand into the Classics style and call it part of the “Ultimate” line. Which gives me incredible hope for Silverhawks and Bravestarr and rando old properties like that. I really dig Brian. Turtles were past my time but those toys are dope as fuck with the 4H sculpting and the painted accessories on the accessories “tree.” Brian is on his game with these reveals. We just need approval from James Earl Jones on Thulsa Doom. Damn S7 is moving to first pace in toyworld.
