Maybe a good compromise would be for the next home version of Final Fight (arcade) have the Sega CD soundtrack as a option.

Definitely, that should already have been the case with Double Impact and the Capcom BEU collection.

There's been custom MAME builds that do that for years and that's what I use to play it thesedays, I don't think that anyone who has brought either of the above releases has any reason to feel guilty about using them

I said to a friend yesterday, that I would love if they released a Sega Neptune Mini and call it Mega Drive 32X instead. They could put 32X and Mega Drive games on it. That way I could finally have it and I would be really interested in that.
Back in the day I had the plan to sell my Mega Drive II and Mega Drive 32X to replace it with a Sega Neptune. Sadly it never showed up because of the Saturn. Or they could do a Saturn Mini and put 32X games on that, I would also buy that. I always wanted to have a Saturn, but bought the PSX, because the Saturn did not have transparency and the games looked better. Also it had Tekken and Ridge Racer. And Twisted Metal :D

The same happened to me with the Saturn. I only wanted Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and in September 96, my dad took me to Toys 'R Us to get one when I saw the Nintendo 64 with a video promo of Super Mario 64. A week later...

    (Cue N64 kid)

I did get a Saturn, Sega CD and 32X in 2011.

Although I much prefer the Japanese soundtrack, the US version also didn't fail to impress.

But outside of playing Sonic CD at a demo kiosk, my first experience with Redbook audio in gaming was on my family's DOS PC. The majority of games used Adlib or MIDI soundtracks, and a precious few used Amiga-like tracker modules. The small handful that used CD audio blew all of that away.

As much as we laugh about some of them now, those first couple of waves of PC CD games were mind blowing at the time. 7th Guest, Myst, Rebel Assault, Wing Commander 3, Under a Killing Moon and so on.

Even arcade ports like Raiden and Super Street Fightrer II just plain sounded amazing, even if they didn't have any fancy video content.

Wing Commander Games are -still- awesome and I'm still sad we haven't gotten something like them in a long time.

And no.. Star Citizen doesn't count.

I didn't even know there was a PC version of Raiden, going to need to check that soundtrack out.

It's depressing that dedicated space combat sims haven't made a comeback like almost every other genre has at this point. Trading and exploration games with combat never went away, but I can't remember anything worth talking about in the way of mission based games that actually came out since Freespace 2 or Starlancer and that was almost 20 years ago.

It's not like it's even a difficult or expensive genre to develop for, a mid tier publisher could have eaten Squadron 42's lunch already by actually releasing a competent and reasonably polished game instead of spending hollywood money on a game unnecessarily chained to the technology development of an MMO so ambitious it might never actually be finished.

I don't want to go through the whole thread and can't find the info. can we insert old cartridges into this system?

EDIT: nvm says it doesn't. Only 1 game appeals to me. So, I am going to go ahead and cancel my pre-order.

Just missing the Game Sack early review on that list of videos. In his review he points out there being still a slight sound delay at points in the games, though he only showed the Castle of Illusion game really as an example.

I'm still pumped for this as it has a lot of games I loved on the Sega Genesis. Toejam & Earl, Sonic 2, Phantasy Star IV, Shining Force, Landstalker, Wonder Boy in Monster Land...freaking Castlevania: Bloodlines!!!
All it needed was TMNT: Hyperstone Heist, Toejam & Earl: Panic on Funkotron, and Shining Force 2 to be 100% perfect for me.

I got that video on the Retro Games thread. GS sure gets super technical about frame rates and lag, but most people probably wouldn't notice the difference. It also pointed out that one of the packed in controllers came in non-functioning from the get-go, so that's also a potential issue for the mass release next month.

Yeah, the controller thing was hopefully was just a fluke there.

The only other complaint I've heard is Sega not including a 6 button controller. I don't play fighting games, so it won't affect me, but I know it will those that do.
